DUCK DODGERS

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

Remember watching Looney Tunes on Saturday Morning and watching the fun adventures of Daffy Duck as Duck Dodgers in the twenty-fourth and a half century? Now a game has brought Daffy's fun character to the Nintendo 64.

You Play as Duck Dodgers (duh) in his quest to save Earth from Marven the Martian. In this Platform Adventure game, you collect Energy Atoms to save the world.
Duck Dodgers follows the basics for a platform game. Collect items, stomp or kick enemies, jump from platform to platform, after everything is found you can exit a level and open new ones. If you played Gex 3, Donkey Kong 64, Earthworm Jim or Rayman 2 you'll know what I mean. Dodgers has some nice graphics but not the best ever seen in a 3D platform game.
Great animation and some funny between levels cartoons that really make the game a blast. There's five planets to explore and the levels are huge. Many places to search in this game. The levels are sharp and have no break-up. Every detail looks more like a cartoon then a video game.

The sound is good but not the best in a game. You'll hear fun phrases from Daffy and other characters and is not over done like Gex. The music doesn't have the same feel of a Looney Tunes cartoon, It just doesn't have the same energy. The sound effects are simple cartoon noises, and sound right out on any Looney Tunes Cartoon.

The biggest problem with Duck Dodgers is the control, Like many 3D platforms the camera angles don't follow the character and you get lost until you push the button to correct the angle. Its also hard to judge distances and keeping Daffy on a platform so he doesn't fall to his doom.
If you ever played Bug Bunny Lost in Time (PSX), Duck Dodgers pretty much has the same feel and control. Overall if you love platform games and like Looney Tunes, I would recommend giving Duck Dodgers a try.
