DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HEROES

Jay "The Flea" Wade

An ancient evil warlord is threatening the world with monsters of all kinds and the only
ones who defeated him before were four heroes who have pasted away. The four
heroes are raised from the dead and must learn all the abilities they had to defeat the
warlord in their first life. Each warrior has a ancient weapon that they must find soul
shards to bring them back to their most power form. The heroes include a Human knight
who uses swords, a Halfling Rogue who uses knifes, a Dwarf Cleric who uses hammers
and axes, and an Elf Sorcerer who uses staffs and spears. They each have to earn
experience to gain new abilities, spells, and use of weapons and armor. It all in real
time combat. Basically if you ever played Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance,
Heroes gameplay is almost the same thing.

The gameplay is great and just like Baldur’s Gate it’s an awesome fantasy RPG adventure. Your always hunting for the best weapons, armor and accessories, in fact you’ll play the game numerous times just to find the best. And unlike Baldur’s Gate you can play up to
four players at once. You can build a character at home then go over to your friends
and jump into his game with the character you built up and earn more. There’s secret
areas hidden in the game, you can also return to old areas and still fight monsters. But
on the other foot there are some things that Baldur’s did better, added secrets for
beating the game, better items for playing harder modes. While there is a new difficulty
to earn, it doesn’t change the game any, other then make enemies harder. There’s no
secret characters (that I’m aware of) and it’s just as short as Baldur’s.

The graphics are just as wonderful as Baldur’s although some of the FMV could have
been better. The characters look great and the zoom feature is a big plus over Baldur’s.
The sound is top quality, the music is awesome, and most everyone is voice acted.
I’d love to see a game that plays like Baldur’s & Heroes but have huge free roaming maps,
tons of abilities, items and weapons to find. It takes over 80 hours to finish. You can
earn new classes and characters as you play the game. Basically a game that plays like
Heroes and has a huge maps as in Everquest and doesn’t have to play online. Maybe
Champions of Norrath will answer the call, will have to wait and see.
Overall if you’re a big fan of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, you’ll love Heroes.
