DEVIL MAY CRY 3: DANTE’S AWAKENING

by Emily "Tukee" Carlson

Little known fact. Devil May Cry started out as a design
for Resident Evil 4. Betcha didn’t know that. Thankfully
Capcom decided it wasn’t fitting what they envisioned for
the next Resident, and Devil May Cry was born. When DMC
first hit the scene, it was the baddest of the bad. This
game rocked. Action fans across the globe wet themselves
and hailed Capcom as the king once again.

Devil May Cry 2 was rushed out the next year, with mediocre
reviews and gameplay. Personally, I loved it, knowing it
was inferior t the original. I knew it was the same game
with small modifications and a 2nd disc with a female
character no one wanted to play. I still wished everyday
for a 3rd installment, but for them to take their time with
it. Well, they did, and it rocks again.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening rocked onto the
Playstation 2 in March of 2005. This installment tells the
early years of Dante’s life. How he got started, how he
discovered who he is, and how many knew he had a twin
brother?? Oh yes, Devil May Cry 3 introduces us to Dante’s
slightly older, more mature, twin brother, Vergil. He looks
just like our Dante with slicked back, spiky hair. His
attire and demeanor are much more sophisticated then Dante ever was.

While Dante wields his big guns Ebony and Ivory, Vergil
waves an elegant sword as his weapon of choice. Don’t think
for a minute he can be out maneuvered by Dante. He keeps up
with him quite well.

DMC3 adds a new, younger look for Dante which comes with a
ton of new moves as well. DMC3 features multiple fighting
styles, which is new to the DMC series. There is a lot of
things to learn and master in this game. Graphically, this
episode stands out above the rest. The story is by far
better then DMC2 and as good as DMC1.

Devil May Cry 3 is a fans must play, and if you haven’t
played DMC yet, then what are ya waiting for? This is
honestly the best franchise since Resident Evil or Mega
Man. Dante was always kick ass cocky cool, and Vergil just
adds class to the series. Honestly, I’d like to see Vergil
spawned off into his own Game. Capcom, you listening?
