DUKE NUKEM: ZERO HOUR

by Wyatt "JOE DOG" Elloitt

Legendary game hero Duke Nukem is back for almost new adventure. Last year Duke Nukem had success with a 3rd person view adventure for Playstation titled Duke Nukem:Time To Kill. It was Tomb Raider Duke Nukem style.

Now GT has brought this same principle with a similar story line to the N64 titled Due Nukem: Zero Hour. Much like the Dukester himself, the graphics are pumped up for the N64. Add an expansion pack and they get even better.

Once again Duke Nukem finds himself lost in time fighting to save the world from alien pig scum. This Duke outing offers the same Nukem humor we've all come to know and love. Some of it is pure Duke with adult double meanings, others are tributes to the Simpsons. No joke. Read every poster and business you can find. If you know your Simpsons you'll get a kick out of this.
Zero Hour's sound is very good for N64. Duke sounds like he should, a wise cracking would be Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The control is a bit off. The default control will provide you with a Turok style control, but with many options your sure to find the control style that best suits you. However Its still not perfect. Duke is more limited in what he can do here than in Time to Kill. He can't grab onto ledges at all. His jump is weak, swimming is a nightmare, and when changing weapons there's a next button but no back button.

Much like all other Duke games, Duke Nukem: Zero Hour is extremely violent. Blood on the walls kind of violence. Zero Hour earns its M (mature) rating. Zero Hour is a welcome addition to the Duke Nukem franchise. Its a whole lot better than the chopped up Duke Nukem 64.

If you have Time To Kill and think this is just a rerun, think again. Zero Hour has better graphics, new levels, and just seems more fun then TTK. Next up for Duke is a TTK 2 for PSX and then hopefully Duke Nukem Forever will finally arrive. So if you don't like the Dukeman just except the fact that he's not going' anywhere.
