If racing is your passion, but most racing video games are not fast enough for you. You need to play Formula 1 '98 from Psygnosis for the Sony Playstation. Why Formula 1 '98? Because it is simply the best Formula one racer ever to hit the Playstation. This game came out last year, and has still topped the charts. Formula 1 '98 is the third Formula One game from Psygnosis.
The graphics are great and can almost keep up with the speeds of this game. Almost because it does suffer from some bad break up and some common pop-up. The details on the cars and tracks however are finely tuned. Speed is where this game excels past its competition. This game runs so fast you will feels the wind in your air. You can play Formula 1 '98 as realistic or as simplistic as you want. With damage turned on, your Formula One car is very sensitive. It won't cry if you cal it a piece of junk, but it will split into pieces if you hit a wall or another car. In arcade mode and damage turned off. You can slam not only into walls with out any damage, but become a road hog and knock your opponents off the track. One small tap will send them flying, its better then Destruction Derby.
the sound effects are great. These engines are loud and you hear it. The music is only standard for this kind of game. But it is there and it will keep you pumped.
The control is good, but because of its extreme speeds of over two-hundred miles per hour you can easily spin out of control. The analog controller helps a great deal, but don't expect to feel the bumps through your Dual-Shock for this game is not compatible. Formula 1 '98 is one of the best racing games available on the Playstation. True Formula 1 '99 will be out later in the fall, but as for now '98 is still king.
