FIFA '99

by Wyatt "JOEDOG" Elliott

The FIFA series from EA Sports has been a bench mark in Soccer video games for a long time now. They have a HUGE following. It was first EA Sports title on Nintendo 64 and Playstation. Now its time for the latest edition in the series. You can relax now, FIFA '99 is still tops in Soccer or Football to some. FIFA '99 features the best graphics to date. Smooth fluid control go hand and hand with these polygon soccer players. Detail in the players faces is great, but the way the players emotions can be read by their body language is truly amazing.

FIFA '99 for both Nintendo 64 and Playstation are almost equally great. Except for the fact that Sony's music is so much better. Not so much during the game, but half time really rocks. With tunes you can actually recognize.

The sound effects are quite good too. The European announcer is a great touch of detail. He offers a great deal of excitement to the game. The control for both N64 and PSX is incredibly easy. Even if you never played a soccer video game before in you life you'll be playing like a pro in just minutes. The N64 controller is set up better for the default control setting. Its not a major difference, but it does even out the musical challenges the Nintendo 64 suffers.

FIFA '99 offers a lot of options. Play a friendly game, build a dream team, train, manage the leagues, or play for the World Cup. For those of you who have both N64 and PSX, for the first time there's not a major difference in the two. the sound quality is better on the Playstation so once again the Playstation wins the race, even if its only by a note.
