Fighter Destiny 2 has arrived on Nintendo 64 thanks to the nice people at South Peak. You may be asking your self why should I care about a sequel to such an obscure little known title. Because its good.
The original Fighter Destiny was released by Ocean and was not shall we say a "Blockbuster". However, it did have a cult following.
To look at Fighter Destiny 2 on a store shelf, you'll see a very bland and uninspired box design. Okay fine, it looks like any other fighter since the dawn of time. Flipping the box over to read about the game probably won't sell you either. Nothing even remotely clever or eye catching. Chances are you'll be uninterested and move on to the latest cute and fuzzy mascot title from Nintendo. After all, its safe, colorful, Familiar, and features a pink cream puff marshmallow guy on the cover who eats things in large quantities.
I'm gonna do you a favor, and tell you to pass on the pink delight and try something original. If you like a good fighting game, but are tired of the usual 3 round brawl winner takes all Tekken wanna be's. You have to try Fighter Destiny 2.
Here's the scoop. Fighter Destiny 2 features only okay graphics, with even lamer characters.
Sounds great so far, right? Wrong. Here's the awesome part. FD2 does NOT have rounds, period. A fighter scores points, Stars to be exact. Each fighter needs 8 points to win a match. You earn these points by getting your opponent to the ground. Its not as easy as it sounds. One point is awarded to simple acts such as knocking a fighter out of the ring and more points for more complex moves. With this method, a fight can last only 2 rounds or 15.
Fighter Destiny 2 may not have the fancy graphics or even a big name behind it, but what it does have is playibility and originality. And that's gotta be worth something. The N64's days are numbered, so choose to play quality games. Marshmallows are for roasting, Fighter Destiny 2 is for your N64. Got it? Good.
