GALERIANS

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

The Survival Horror mostly consists of a hero killing Zombies, Vampires, and other Demon like creatures with weapons ranging from rifles to rocket launchers.
Galerians breaks that trend with a sci-fi world where you play as a young boy that got psychic powers due to scientists who filled you with chemicals in a bizarre experiment.
You escape and roam the halls finding the truth behind your torture.

The game basically plays and looks like the Resident Evil series. You collect chemicals for your psychic powers to kill bad guys that range from lab scientists, security guards, robots and mutants.
Every chemical has different abilities Shock Waves, Fires, and Force Fields, these are your weapons.

You also have to power them up before letting your power loose. (this can be a major pain at times) The puzzles again follow the Resident Evil & Silent Hill games, most are pretty simple and can be picked up with ease. most puzzle you can use your psychic search on to get hints to where you have to go to solve a puzzle. (vary handy)
You'll also have to watch you Psychic Anger Points, if this gets too high your psychic abilities go haywire and no enemy will go near you or their head explodes and you slowly die if you don't take a pill.

The Graphics hold up quite well but don't hold a candle to the Resident Evil Series. The animation is a little jerky and the control isn't as good as RE or Silent Hill.
Most of the character designs are plain and the robots are a little out of place for a survival horror. There also could have been a little more chemical weapons to use.

The sound doesn't have the heart pounding rhythm as RE and Silent Hill, but does hold up in the game. For a survival Horror you expect to jump once in awhile and have a fear to open doors. Okay, there was a few times this game made you run in fear.

I do think the idea of psychic weapons is a vary original idea, but just wish there was more of them. Galerians has to be one of the longest Survival Adventures, spanning three discs of puzzles and bad guys. If you played all the Resident Evil Series, Silent Hill and Fear Effect I would recommend Galerians as the next game you try.
