If you are a Guy Richie fan who hated his last movie Swept Away. You're not alone. If you long for another Snatch, I've got a solution for you. Buy a Sony Playstation 2 pronto!
Sony Computer Entertainment presents The Getaway. Originally thought to be a Grand Theft Auto III ripoff and or wannabe.
It turns out, its masterpiece in game making itself.
Sure, its as gritty as GTA3, but the similaties end there. The Getaway is what I'd like to cal an interactive movie.
Not like the one's we knew during the Sega CD days. I'm talking a game with a solid story, but you play the scenes.
In the game you play a retired Mob hitman who is called back to duty when his wife is murdered and his kid is kidnapped by his former employers.
So, he's forced to do the mob boss' dirty work so he can get his kid back. The game does allow for fredom, but not complete at first.
The task at hand must be completed, so if you go off course you die. You can carjack cars like in GTA3, but if your car should get damaged. The car would lose speed, stop working or start on fire.

Graphically, I think it's a step up from GTA3. Just slightly though. The cars look better, and the characters look incredible.
Real actors play the parts, the in game characters look just like the actors who potray them. Note: No famous actors appear in this game.
The game takes place in London and plays out like a Guy Richie movie.
The language is VERY R rated. If the F word bothers you, you'll want to play this game with the volume down.
It still shocks me to hear that kind of language from a video game. I'm still not used to it, but I guess I need to fast.
The way games are heading, a matuire rated game is gona be no different than an R rated movie.

The Getaway is not perfect. The control of the character himself, could be a little better.
I find myself getting shot while trying to use the targeting system. So, I try to let the automatic targeting system do it for me.
The game takes realism a step further than most when comes to health too.
There is no health. So, if you get shot. You are shot and your body will react to it. Get shot too many times, you die. Period. You must start over.
This is EXTREMELY frustrating at first. However, you start to play the game with a different mind set. Instead of relying on finding health and acting careless, you stop using it as a crutch and begin playing smarter.
The Getaway is a great game. I recommend it highly. Don't expect it to be the next Vice City though.
Its as gritty and raw as GTA, but more story driven.
