FOX COLLEGE HOOPS '99 - N64

HOOPS 99

by Wyatt "JOEDOG" Elliott

Fox Interactive's first Nintendo 64 title is Fox Sports College Hoops '99. Its not a breakthrough game by any means. The graphics, control, and sound are nothing to cheer about. On the other hand, for you college basketball fans its the only game in town for the N64. Fox only provides us with a mediocre college experience here. The player graphics are dull. The animation is so choppy. It appears the players only have two frames a second of animation. The sound effects...If there were any in this game, are only worthy of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Its a shame this is the Nintendo 64. The background animation is an attempt at quality. The excited college crowd is rambunctious and energetic, unlike some sport games who only supply a still picture of various colors to simulate an audience who cares. Something the Clippers might wanna try. The announcer doesn't even care about what's going on in the game. He might wake up once in a while when a three point shot is completed. An instant replay might be nice once in a while too. The control is weak. The players are slow. There is no turbo button to provide super slams dunks. The other basketball games on the N64 (all of them NBA of course) provide gamers the option for up to four players. Fox College Hoops '99 only allows up to two players. Which is a negative. Fox Sports has all the official licenses for the NCAA teams, and logos. If you do play Fox Sports College Hoops '99 you can expect to play in the NCAA tournament, Sweet 16, Final four, all the Major Conferences, and Pre-season games. Fox Sports College Hoops '99 is a not a total loss. It is worth a play or two if you have a Nintendo 64 and want to participate in March Madness. I suspect this will be a popular rental choice Through out March.
