K-1 REVENGE

by Wyatt "JOE DOG" Elliott

After years of virtually no boxing games for Playstation, We've seen a sudden boom in the franchise. Two now, two more to come later in the year. Unfortunately both Contender and Knockout Kings fell short of expectations. Its no wonder people are turning to K-1 for relief. K-1 Revenge is a follow up to THQ's K-1:The Arena Fighters from a few years back.
K-1 is a fighting sport from Japan. Its one of the most demanding Martial Arts tournaments in the world. K-1 features the fighting styles of Kickboxing, Karate, Kung-Fu, Kenpo, and Tae-Kwondo. Which is what the K in K-1 represents. 1 is the goal of tournament, no one wants to be number 5.

K-1 Revenge is a good upgrade from the original. Better graphics, although still flawed are an improvement over The Arena Fighters. Better sound and control also tops the appeal of Revenge. However the backgrounds fail to impress. Basic boxing rings time and again get boring after a while.

Much like The Arena Fighters, Revenge features real life K-1 fighters to play, 15 to be exact. Plus added 5 levels of CPU intelligence, combo's and a new training mode.
K-1 Revenge is almost like an arcade fighting game with rules. Punch and kick your way to the top. I think that's where the appeal is. Its somewhere between boxing and Ultimate Fighting. K-1 Revenge is no where near a GREAT game. It has many flaws. Some how it manages to remain fun. A great multi-player game. K-1 Revenge can punch and kick its way past its competition. "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord"....but this is one exception.
