MARCH MADNESS '99 - PSX

march madness 99

by Wyatt "JOEDOG" Elliott

Its about that time of year again. the time when everyday normal citizens go mad in march. Forget about the NBA, lets hear it for the NCAA. Bring on the latest crop of NCAA basketball video games as well. EA Sports has come back for a second round with NCAA March Madness '99 for the Sony Playstation. I didn't get a chance to play the original MM'98, but If MM'99 is anything like '98 I didn't miss much. March Madness '99 has just plain awful play control. This game will make you cringe. The Players are completely unresponsive. These college players act like they've been up all night studying for finals before the big game. The whole lack of enthusiasm in this game is less like March Madness and more like march of the wooden soldiers. Even the announcer is lazy. He must suffer from lazy eye as well, cause the plays that he calls are far and few between NCAA March Madness '99's graphics are poor too. Choppy animation, and washed out colors only support the lack in detail of the fans in the stands and the shineless court. I know EA Sports can do better than this. They've proven that with NBA Live '99. Much more exciting, and well detailed too. EA could have made a better game if the took NBA Live and modified the uniforms, players, courts, etc. and slapped NCAA on it. In stead were forced to suffer through what seems to be a last minute game designed only for a couple of months out of the year. The only thing that makes March Madness '99 better than any other college video game I've ever seen, is the option to play woman's leagues. Hey how about that? Maybe we'll see that WNBA game yet.
