Metroid has finally return to a console system, and has a whole new look and feel.
At first this sounded like a bad idea changing the classic side scrolling adventure we love into a first person shooter.
But all worries where put to rest once the game was in our hands.
The game is basically the same as it was in Super Metroid, only now is all in first person 3D.
You still play as Samus in her classic space suit and have all the classic weapons and upgrades that where in Super Metroid, but also some new fun gadgets to test out as well.
Also new is a scan feature, where you must scan almost everything and enter it into your log.
Some puzzles require this for you to advance in the game, you also open secrets by scanning.
If you happen to own a GameBoy Advance with Metriod Fusion, you can link it up with Prime and open more secrets.
The control is on target, it’s better this most any other FPS on the market.
You can auto target on enemies or free aim your self.
The Morph Ball is wild to play in 3D, think Monkey Ball and you’ll get the idea.
The levels are huge, and they all need to be explored numerous times to find all the secrets.
Most all the classic enemies appear in Prime, the bosses are also 3D and you can lock-in on them and rotate around them, you can even scan them for weaknesses.
The Graphics are beautiful, the alien worlds look great in 3D. The frame rate is fast and there’s never a moment of slowdown. Samus looks better then ever (when we can see her.)
Everything that made Metriod a classic is in Prime, although I still would like to see her return in a 2D world but I also hope to see sequels in Prime’s 3D world as well.
Hats off to Nintendo for not screwing up a great game by changing into 3D.
If you own a Gamecube, Metriod Prime is worth owning.
