Chicago

A young girl is arrested for killing her lover who promised to make her a star, she is about to go on trail for the murder and get the death penalty. But a con man lawyer makes her a star in the media and cons the media into believing she's not a cold blooded killer. All the while song and dance play out the characters emotions. Does the plot remind you of the OJ case? While the plot is serious, it doesn't follow what most musicals do by breaking out in song in the middle of the moment. No, the song and dances are cut into the scenes to show the audience the emotions of the characters. The plot is mainly about how one young girl wants to be a star, even if its for killing a man. It's a fun about a serious subject and if your a fan of 20's jazz you'll love the music. I can see the sequel now, L.A. and Johnny Cochran singing "If the Glove doesn't Fit".

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

A 70's Game Show producer gets recruited as a CIA hitman. But the success of his TV career gets in the way of his secret career as an assassin. While the main character is real life producer, but his tale as an assassin is hard to swallow as a true story. But putting this aside, the movie is fun, fresh and entertaining. It's packed with stars, some in main roles others you'll have to watch closely to catch. The story is unclear about a few points, and it leaves the viewer guessing the outcome. This movie is written by Charlie Kaufman, who's known for strange lovable films as Being John Malkovich and Adaptation so the quirky strangeness of the film fits right in with his other movies. I recommend checking out CoaDM just as a strange tale about a strange character.

The Pianist

Based on a true story. A Jewish pianist career and life is destroyed when the Nazi's invade Poland, he escapes being sent to the camps but now lives in hiding from the Nazi army. This movie is in the same league as Schindler's List, a film that will show the horror that the Jews went through when the Nazi's invaded Poland. Adrien Brody is spectacular as The pianist, in fact the entire cast where great. This film is tough to watch in many parts, this in not an uplifting film, but it will show how a man can escape from being annihilated. I wish the film went into more about what happened to the Pianists family but other then that is a film you won't ever forget.

NARC

An ex-NARC agent gets teamed up with a rogue cop to find the killer of another NARC agent. While one cop is by the book and is using every detective skill he has to crack the case, the other is using brute force to get the killers. This movie reminds me of another great gritty cop film called Training Day. The characters and acting are all at the top of their game. The plot is strong and has many twists, the mystery on the NARC Agents death will keep you guessing until the vary end. If you want to see a great cop movie, Narc is one of the best this year.

25th Hour

Edward Norton plays a drug dealer who gets busted by the DEA and gets seven years in jail. While on bail waiting to start his sentence he goes out to celebrate his last days of freedom and find the person who snitched on him to the Police. Spike Lee makes great character movies, and 25th hour is no different. The characters are all interesting and well acted. Norton's character as the drug dealer who regrets his crime and fears going to prison is what makes this movie shine. But where the movie has problems is in it's editing, strange shots, length and unclear ending. The movie keeps jumping from the past to the present, and there's no order to it. Also the 9-11 references where nice, but unnecessary. I believe they where only in the film because Spike Lee wanted to pay his respects to the city he grew up in. I lightly recommend 25th Hour for the great characters and acting.

About Schmidt

Jack Nickelson plays an Insurance Manager who loses his wife shortly after retiring. He becomes a lonely old man and the only thing that keeps him going is writing letters to a 6 year old boy he sponcers in Africa. This movie is all Jack's talent, he makes this movie a must see. While all the characters are great, his really stands out. The story is vary simple, nothing is over the top and it's all realistic. While the ending could have had more conclusion to it, it still has a strong message. Mainly on how every man wants to be remembered and think their life matters. A must see if you like good character films.

Drumline

A student gets a scholarship to play snare drum for a college marching band. He struggles with the Army style basic training and his attitude clashes with his Coach and Drum Major. Now I'm not a huge fan of sport movies, mainly because they are so formulaic. Drumline is no different, while it's not about a sport, it's about the half-time show. What makes a good sport movie is great characters and gets the viewer excited about the sport. Drumline does both of these. This is a great movie to see if you (or you know someone) who plays in a marching band. Drumline may be predicable but it is a fun movie for the whole family to see.

Antwone Fisher

A Sailor named Antwone Fisher is close to being thrown out of the Navy due to constant fights, but a Navy Psychiatrist shows Antwone that His Anger is due to his troubled past and if he tracked down his family he can live a normal life. This is a great character drama. Derek Luke who plays Antwone is one of the best new actors I've seen in a long time. His character makes this a great story about overcoming ones past. Denzel Washington is also great not only as an actor in this film but as a Director. Antwone Fisher is a must see.

Adaptation

The writer of Being John Malkovich gets the job to write a screen play based on a nonfiction book about an Orchid Thief. But the book is difficult to adapt into a screenplay, so he writes his story about writing the screen play. This is one of the most original films of the year. Nicolas Cage is wonderful as both the neurotic Writer and as his over confident twin brother. The story is funny and the characters are lovable. My only complaint on Adaptation is the ending. They lead you on with clues to where this movie is heading, but leave you out to dry. The story is like a car ride, you start off really smooth then take a sharp turn and go into high speed towards a ramp, but right before you hit the ramp the story stops and walks away from the stunt. I really wanted this movie to take that ramp. This is the easiest way I could explain the ending without ruining it. I really loved this movie, I just wish it had that daring stunt for an ending.

Catch Me If You Can

Based on a true story. A young teen (Leonardo DiCaprio) runs away from home and fakes his way as a Pilot, Doctor and a Lawyer and funds his fake life with fake payroll checks. All the while toying with an FBI agent (Tom Hanks) that's hunting him down. This is one of the best film of the year. DiCaprio and Hanks are great as their characters. I'm not a DiCaprio fan, but in this film he's great as the cocky young con man. The movie is full of laughs, and you wont believe someone actually pulled this off. He's always one step ahead of getting caught, and you'll love watching him get away to pretend he's someone else. CMIYC is a lovable film, all the characters a likable and well played. This movie is a must see feel good film.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Froto continues his quest to destroy the Ring, and finds a strange friend in Gollum (The troll following him). Meanwhile there's war all over Middle Earth where no man, elf or Hobbit is safe. The second LotR has a lot more action then the first one did, but it doesn't have the flow and character development that FotR did. The TTT doesn't follow the book as well as FotR did, in fact it cuts about three chapters short. There's also a few areas that was changed for I'm not sure what reason. But the movie still stands on it's own and I did enjoy the movie vary much. The war sequences where unbelievable, and the effects of Gollum's character look spectacular. It's hard to believe he's a digital character. Overall if you never read the book, you'll love TTT. If you have you might be a tad disappointed in parts but you'll still enjoy the movie. A must see.

Gangs of New York

Set in the years from 1846 and 1863, two gangs go to war over land rights in New York. But when the leader of the Irish gang is killed by the Natives leader Bill the Butcher, The Irish leaders son vows revenge to kill Bill. This film took me by surprise. The premise of the story sounds pretty cut and dry, but there's a back story that's a dark time in history that makes this movie hard to watch. The back story is the Civil War Draft and the chaos it infused in New York. This part of the story is worth seeing just as a part of history. The gang war is also well done, all the characters are well acted and well portrayed. At times you really hate seeing how corrupt and racist our people once where. Daniel Day-Lewis portrays Bill the Butcher so well you'll really hate his character by the end. This movie is a gory bloodbath and should be seen just so you can see the ugly side that America once was.

Star Trek: Nemesis

The ST:TNG gang return in their fourth film, this time Picard goes against himself. A younger clone of Picard comes after the real Picard so he can live and destroy earth and the federation. The curse continues, Every odd Trek movie is terrible and every even movie is great. Well, this is Trek movie #10. It's full of action and fun that not only Trekkers can enjoy. While Nemesis doesn't beat First Contact or Wrath of Khan, it is a great fun action sci-fi. I recommend Nemesis as a good fun sci-fi action movie for everyone.

Maid in Manhattan

Jennifer Lopez plays a Hotel Maid single mother who after trying on a $5000 dress from one of the Hotels guests, gets noticed by a single running Senator. The Senitor falls in love with the her but doesn't know she's a poor maid, in this Cinderella love story. MiM is a lovely cute film, the maid and the senator have good chemistry together and the plot is settle and fun. At times the plot gets campy and it vary formulaic. But Lopez is sweet and doesn't go over the top, The Senator is charming and you really want to see them together. I lightly recommend MiM as a sweet charming Cinderella love story.

Equilibrium

In the distant future, a dictator makes human emotions against the law, so people will not be violent and wars will be a thing of the past. So everyone takes a drug to make them emotionless zombies, and anyone who doesn't take the drug or possesses any past relics that are not emotionless is hunted down to be destroyed. This is one of the best sci-fi/action movies of the year. The story is original and frightening, their world feels as if Communism and Nazism was put together. The action in this movie feels like something out of The Matrix, wild stunts that will keeps you wanting to see more. Christian Bale (American Psycho) is great as the emotionless cop, his acting and wild stunts where beyond belief. I loved the look Equilibrium's futuristic bleak world. This is a must see for anyone who loves wild action films, and anyone who likes smart sci-fi's. This movie is a must see!

Eight Crazy Nights

A Chanukah/Christmas scrooge named Davey Stone (Adam Sandler) is taken in by a little old basketball coach named Whitey. Davey hates the holidays and is mean towards everyone, while nieve Whitey wants to win the all-star award by his home town. In one of the biggest disappointments, Adam Sandler's 8CN is terrible. The movie was barley funny, it was mostly Sandler's character making fun of a handicapped little old man. The only funny moment was before the movie started, when they played a short film about his dog Meatball. The music was dull (except the Chanukah song 3 at the end credits) and the whole story went nowhere. This movie was poorly written and had nothing to say. most of the characters where boring and have no value towards the film, especially those deer's. Pass on 8CN.

Solaris

When a space station loses contact with earth and loses it's first rescue squad, they send a lone expert (George Clooney) to the station to find out what happened. When he arrives, he finds only a couple station survivors, a young boy and his dead wife. Only now the mystery is in why or how the planet Solaris can bring the dead back to life. Solaris tries hard to be an intellectual film about mankind and how we can't let go of our past. But the movie is cut in a way that's confusing and doesn't answer any of the questions they keep referring to. The story is vary slow moving and the plot points are dull. They lead you on in the plot in a way that makes you think there's something to all that's going on, but it leads to nothing and half the story points in the vastness of space. The acting in Solaris is great, it's just that it's slow plot doesn't have the same performance.

They

After witnessing the death of a close friend, a Psychology student has night terrors. She finds others who was close to her friend who also are having these dreams and they all suffered night terrors as children. Now they are hunted down by creatures of darkness, but they don't know if they are real or just in their own heads. While They is nowhere as good as Signs or The Ring, it does have the same type of creepiness as those films. The Darkness creatures are barely seen, They hide in shadows and you only see them in flashes. The characters are smarter then most horror movies, but still fall for a few horror movie traps. The story is dark (no pun intended) and ending also is dark, This is not an uplifting film. I lightly recommend They just for a good creepy scare.

Die Another Day

James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) must stop an evil weapons dealer from selling a weapon of mass destruction, but a rival spy (Halle Berry) named Jinx is also after the crazy dealer. 007 returns in one of the most action packed adventures yet, the action is what makes this one of the better recent Bond films. The action is far better then in XXX or Transporter. Brosnan is great as a cocky Bond, and Berry is lovable as Jinx. There's funny moments and great action. Where 007:DAD lacks in is a realistic plot, but 007 has never been known for realism. Plus the villains are vary cliche, but I do lightly recommend 007:DAD for its great action.

Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts school of magic and discovers there's a secret chamber under Hogwarts that contains a monster that will kill or petrify those who see it. The monster is lose in Hogwarts and Potter and his friend must find the chamber and stop this evil monster from hurting more students. I can see why Harry Potter has millions of fans, his character is likable and the story is full of action and mystery. Potter 2 has a lot more action then the first one did, and the story has a darker tone to it. The special effects look great and the actors play all the parts well. This is a film series for all ages and I look forward to seeing the next Harry Potter adventure.

8 Mile

(loosely based on Eminem's life) A young poor man (Eminem) dreams of becoming a professional rapper, but no one takes a white rapper seriously. His friends enters him in a Rap-off at a local club to prove he's got what it takes, but his trailer Mom, rival rappers and a shaky love life distracts him from becoming a success Eminem is great as the down on his luck rapper. His performance is what make 8 Mile worth seeing, but the plot is weak and predictable and the ending leaves you hanging. Eminem has a good career in acting, it will be interesting to see him in a role not written for him. I lightly recommend 8 Mile just for Eminem's character.

Bowling for Columbine

Michael Moore's third documentary comedy (Roger & Me and The Big One) this time on the violence and fear in America. A great thought provoking documentary on America. This movie will have you talking for hours afterwards. How the Media spreads fear and how a child can get a gun so easy. It's funny (especially the cartoon similar to South Park) and will make you wonder why America is a violent country. My only complaints on BfC is it's a tad one sided, and it doesn't supply and answers to all the questions it raises.

The Santa Clause 2

Tim Allen returns as jolly ol' Saint Nick, but a new clause is discovered that states he must find and marry a misses Claus or lose his job as Santa. So he creates a "toy clone" of himself to watch over the elf's while he's off to find a misses Claus. While the idea of SC2 is funny and interesting, when he must find a woman to be his wife. The whole "toy clone" idea should have been left at the North pole and barred under the ice. They barley touch all the good jokes in him dating as Santa, and the relationship he does find is rushed. They waste our time with this stupid toy villain who takes over the workshop as a dictator with toy soldiers. Every thing that made the first SC lovable and funny is lost in SC2. I can only recommend SC2 as a rental at best.

I Spy

A new special agent is partnered up with a professional boxer to find a secret spy plane that was stolen from the US government Loosely based on the old TV series of the same name, I Spy offers a few laughs from Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson. Their characters are funny and enjoyable for most of the move. Where this film fails in it's mission is it's over predictable plot and it's stereotypical villains. I can only lightly recommend I Spy for the antics of Murphy and Wilson.

Jackass the Movie

A group of morons come up with gross out childish stunts to annoy unsuspecting people. It's many clips of stupid stunts and gross out practical jokes. I have a love hate relationship with Jackass, while there where a few jokes that made me laugh so hard I could barely breathe. But most of the jokes don't go anywhere and there poorly done. Some where really funny but I really didn't need to see the guy crapped in his pants or the "toy car" after he's done with it. You'll see a lot of male butt and it gets nauseating after a while. I feel that many of their jokes/stunts shouldn't have made the film, they where stupid more then funny. I think Jackass will make a good rental, watch the good moments and fast forward past the crap.

Ghost Ship

Salvagers find a forty year old cruise ship adrift at sea. So they go aboard to find way to salvage the ship, until they descover that the ship is haunted by angry spirits who are trapped within the ship. And one evil being wants the salvagers to join them. From the makers of 13 Ghosts, comes Ghost Ship. While 13 Ghost was a terrible movie, Ghost Ship is a small improvement over that film. The movie starts out on the right foot, an eerie ship that ghosts appear and scare the salvagers. But the movie falls into every horror movie cliche in the book. The story is week and silly, it starts off well but by the second half your rolling your eyes at it's stupid characters and not caring what happens next. A rental at best.

Punch Drunk Love

A simple strange lonely man (Adam Sandler) finds a sweet girl who doesn't mind that he's a tad on the weird side. But a Phone sex hotline scam that he called before he meet his new girlfriend threatens to destroy his new love and his life. Punch Drunk is not your average love story, it's weird and at times doesn't make any sense. But the neurotic characters and their strange ways of life will pull you into their story. From the director/writer who made Magnolia and Boogie Nights, who is know for strange things happening in his films and Punch Drunk is no different. I also liked the look and Cinematography. If your expecting the average Adam Sandler film you be highly disappointed, I can light recommend Punch Drunk just for it's strange look and characters.

The Ring

After four teens die from watching a video tape, a reporter investigates the deaths and watch the tape herself. But now she must find the origin of the tape, or she will die in seven dies. This is one of the creepiest movies I've seen in a long time. The story is full of twists and turns and you'll be guessing all the way to the vary end. And when you think it's over you'll find out there's more. This idea of watch and die was done earlier this year with FearDotCom. While FearDotCom was laughable, Ring shows how this idea can work. My only complaint on the Ring is there's a few unanswered questions to the plot. But overall I highly recommend The Ring to any fan of X-Files and Steven King Movies.

Knockaround Guys

When the son of a Mafia godfather gets the opportunity to prove himself that he's ready to enter the family business, by a friend of his transporting half a million dollars by plane. But when the money gets lost in a small town, they must hunt down the people who stole their money. While there's been many better Mafia films made, KG does offer some good characters and even a few laughs. Most of the characters are young and are just trying to act tough. (except Vin Diesel) It's not a gangster film, but more of a young man (whose father is a gangster) trying to become what his dad wants him to be, but learns because of this choice, he realizes the truth to becoming like his father.

The Transporter

A criminal driver gets a job to transport a bag across country, but when he finds out the bag contains a young woman. He then must fight to stay alive, because she knows what the men who hired him are really into. Is it just me or does the plot sound like it came out of Grand Theft Auto 3 or Driver? anywho, The transporter does offer some fun action scenes. But most feel as if it was copied from other films, The ending truck battle comes right out of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The plot is paper thin and the characters are uninteresting. There's many plot holes and the movie has vary little to offer in originality. Transporter is a renter at best.

Red Dragon

After FBI Agent Will Graham captures Hannibal the Cannibal, and he retires from the force. But when a new killer nick named "The Tooth Fairy" starts killing families, Graham returns to help find this maniac. He needs help from Hannibal to solve the case, only he's not giving him the answers he needs, instead plays riddles and mind games. For those who don't know, Red Dragon is a remake of the film "Manhunter" only this time the parts are played by Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins. Red Dragon holds up as a great remake of the original. Hopkins is as creepy as ever as Hannibal, and Norton is excellent as Will Graham. The story is a great detective drama, you'll be on the edge of your seat all the way until the end. Even if you've seen Manhunter. Red Dragon is better then Hannibal was by far and it's not as gory. But Silence of the Lambs still holds the title as the best of the series. I highly recommend Red Dragon.

A simple taxi driver (Jackie Chan) gets a job to chauffeur a spy who wears a hi-tech tux that make him a superman. When the spy is down, the taxi driver dons the suit and becomes a superspy himself, even though he's not sure what he's doing. The plot is the one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard, the story is campy, stupid and childish. The only thing that's entertaining in this movie is Jackie Chan, as always, Jackie is fun to watch. But when you compare Tuxedo to other American Chan films such as "Rush Hour" and "Shanghai Noon" it just doesn't hold up. Tuxedo is a renter at best.

His friends and fiancee give him four white feathers as a sign of his cowardliness. So he travels to Sudan and goes undercover to protect his friends and prove to everyone he's not a coward. Based on a novel by AEW Mason, it's a great tale of honor, love and the human spirit. The characters are likable and well acted, I really liked Abou's character. My only complaint on the Four Feathers is it feels it was edited to much to fit into two hours, It seems to rush the story at times. This is a movie worth checking out.

Trapped

A doctor and his wife's daughter is kidnapped for ransom, The kidnappers holds the them all hostage in separate locations for 24 hours until they can pay the ransom. The plot will pull you in from the vary start, Kevin Bacon is great as the cunning kidnapper. The plot is smart and will keep you on the edge and the characters are smart as well. It's shaky camera shots will make it feel more real. The ending and plot twists are a tad Hollywood, but it's still a fun thrill ride. If you like movies such as Ransom and Breakdown I do recommend Trapped.

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

A child is kidnapped by a ruthless assassin bent on revenge, and the FBI agent on the case finds out the assassin is linked to his wife's disappearance. This is one of the worst movies of 2002. There's nothing in this movie even worth a second of anyone's time. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Stealing Harvard

They come up several schemes to get the money, rob an old man's house, rob a convenience store, asking gangsters and even robbing his step-dad. All while keeping it a secret from his soon to be wife. This is a sad excuse for a comedy, it tries way to hard to get a laugh and gets barely a chuckle. The story concept is beyond stupid, Haven't these guys ever heard of a loan from a bank! Tom Green is (again) a waste of space in this film, most of his antics are not funny. The only time I really laughed at SH is after the credits and the bloopers played. Much of the movie doesn't make sense and all the characters don't have the sense God gave a cracker. Pass this movie and never look back.

Based on a true story, Robert Deniro plays detective Vincent LaMarca investigating the murder of a drug dealer and the prime suspect is his own son. But when a cop is killed, Vincent struggles to find his son before the cops do. On top of this The media is hounding Vincent about his child killing father who was executed and if his son is also a killer. Deniro is great as a detective and a loving father. James Fanco also is great as his drug addict son. Even the supporting cast are at their best. Deniro's character has a boat load of issues, and it really feels like it this story was taken from real life. My only complaint on CbtS is the ending doesn't explain the outcome, You are left to guess what happened. Overall I do recommend CbtS as a true to life detective story.

The editing is terrible, it feels like there's many missing parts to this movie. Many plot points are not shown or even explained vary well, many scenes don't even make sense. This movie has vary little to offer and I can't recommend it.

FeardotCom

A cop and a health inspector investigate the deaths of victims who visit a web site that kills it's visitors within 48 hours. Feardotcom tries hard to be an eerie, creepy and gory film with images of corpses, torture and ghostly apparitions. While the look and film style is creepy, its plot and characters lack what it takes to be a classic horror film. It's unbelievable plot goes beyond the supernatural and the torture killer called "the Doctor" acts worse then most B-movie horrors. The characters are dull and the dialog is as dead as the visitors of Feardotcom. It had a good premise, and it's better then Jason X or Halloween Resurrection, but it needs more then a few gory images to become a great horror film.

One Hour Photo

Robin Williams plays a lonely department photo clerk named Sy who lusts to be apart of a family he develops film for. Robin Williams' character is the only thing that makes this film worth seeing. His character is well acted and you can really feel his pain and how he wants to be apart of this family. The other actors did a fine job, its the story and dialog of the other actors that got under developed. It's mostly the fantasies of Sy being a stalker, and the family ignores his weird behavior instead of being frightened be it. I lightly recommend this film just for Williams as the lonely photo guy.

Simone

A down on his luck director (Al Pacino) gets a program to create a virtual actor that's look to real to believe. The movie is a hit and everyone loves Simone and no one knows (or believes) she's not real. The director wants his films to be loved and not Simone, so he tries to rid Simone from his films and his life. This is a fun mock of Hollywood. Simone is an enjoyable farce on what would happen if someone created a computer actor and everyone loved her. Pacino is funny in the role as the director, the story is funny and they don't turn Simone into a killer A.I. The only complaint on Simone is it's a tad unrealistic at times, especially when it comes to how a computer works. Overall I'd recommend Simone for any one looking for a fun Hollywood farce.

The Good Girl

But when the young boy becomes abscessed with her and people around her discover she's being unfaithful, she does everything she can to cover-up the mistake she's made. This is a great character movie, a film where the story is simple and the characters are true to life. They're funny (especially the Goth uncaring clerk) and lovable and they all hate life in their own way and they each have their own way of escape. My only beef with Good Girl is that one certain character should have been the one beaten insted of another, this character ticked me off and I really wanted to see him pay. This is Aniston's best work, I hope to see her in more roles like this one in the future.

He gets marked for death because he won't sell his club so a Casino can be built, but he fights back along with a beautiful girl and his robot body guard to hunt down the man who wants him dead. Pluto Nash has vary little to offer to any sci-fi fan. Almost everything in this film feels like a rip off of other sci-fi's (Blade Runner, Total Recall & A.I.). All the characters are dull, there's no development at all in any of the characters. The script is poorly written and the story is rushed and badly edited, plus the ending climax is unoriginal. Pluto Nash tries to be funny, but you only laugh out of pity. I really can't recommend Pluto Nash for any good reason other then how not to make a sci-fi film.

A mischievous criminal (who loves extreme sports) gets picked to become a CIA spy. He doesn't want the job but is forced to become a spy or go to jail for the rest of his life. He goes undercover to stop an evil terrorist from destroying the world by using his extreme sport tatics. XXX is full of wild action, Vin Diesel does a better job in this movie then he did in Fast & the Furious. The action is over the top silly. The avalanche stunt was enjoyable, but the rest was beyond unreal. The plot is poorly written and the terrorists motive doesn't make sense. I'm tired of these perfect hero action movies, where everything he does goes as planed and by coincidence they foil the villain.

Blood Work

Clint Eastwood plays an FBI profiler who was on the case of a killer who leaves a code at every murder. He retires after a heart transplant, but the heart is from a murdered woman and her sister wants his help to catch the killer. While Clint Eastwood, Jeff Daniels, and Wanda De Jesus are enjoyable as their characters. The plot is well thought out and is written well. But I found the whole plot predicable, I figured out the entire story from the beginning. I enjoyed BW as a smart thriller, but not as a puzzling mystery as I was hoping it was going to be. The idea of the story and plot twists where great it just wasn't presented well. I do lightly recommend BW, because maybe you wont figure out the entire story and be surprised by it's twists.

Signs

An ex-preist farmer (Mel Gibson) finds crop circles in his corn field. At first he thinks its just a prank, but soon learns that's its happening all over the world and his brother and his two kids believe they are going to be invaded by aliens. This is the third film by M. Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense & Unbreakable), Who's known for his stories with a strange twist. Signs is a great thriller with a light spiritual twist. It will scare you and keep you on the edge of your seat all through the movie. Trust me, I haven't heard so many screams from a movie in a long time. I highly recommend Signs to any one who likes movies about Close Encounters of the Third kind.

Austin Powers in Goldmember

Austin Powers returns to fight Dr. Evil, Mini Me, Fat Basterd and new comer Goldmember. Dr. Evil hires Goldmember to create a weapon to bring an asteroid crashing into the earth so it will melt the polar ice caps and flood the world. But Austin must stop him with the help of 70s superstar Foxxy. But when Goldmember kidnaps his father, it becomes personal. This is the worst of the Austin Powers series. The jokes are all potty humor, and all the funny jokes where original when they where in the last two movies. Many parts make no sense and the plot is so campy it felt like it was out of a bad Disney movie of the week. Many of the jokes are over used and are explained to the viewers (I guess they think we wont get it otherwise) Goldmember is not funny, he's disgusting and boring. Dr. Evil and Mini Me are funny in the first half of the film, but by the second half they both lose what makes them great. While part 1 is a classic and part 2 is great for some cheap laughs, part 3 is only worth seeing to complete the series.

K-19: The Widowmaker

Based on a true story, The Soviet Union launches a nuclear Submarine early to get America's attention that Russia is a super power. But a radiation leak threatens the mission and the crew to ether a nuclear holocaust or radiation poisoning to everyone aboard K-19. This movie is one of the best of 2002, Harrison Ford does an Oscar worthy performance as the perfectionist Captain, Liam Neeson also is a top performer as the second in command. The story is thrilling and edge of your seat, and just shows how close we came to nuclear war with the USSR. This film is a must see for any one who likes films like; Hunt for Red October or U-571. And I would like to see Ford get a nod for lead actor come Oscar time.

Eight Legged Freaks

After a toxic chemical spill, Spiders become huge and wreak terror in a small town. Eating every living thing in their path and the small town Sheriff, a Miner and a young boy spider expert must stop these eight legged freaks before they eat every one. Now I remember watching those old monster movies about giant creatures. Ants, Spiders, Bees, Sharks, etc., etc. And maybe 8LF would be the return of the giant monster movies. But instead 8LF doesn't know if its a spoof or a serious horror movie. The characters in 8LF are all stupid and you really don't care if they get eaten or not. Many of the action is cartoony and down right stupid. Who ever wrote this script doesn't know the first thing about spiders behavior. Like sense when do spiders travel on packs? The Spiders act more like rapid wolfs, They run around eat everything that movies. Even the different species cooperate to kill their prey. The story is predictable from the beginning and they even save many characters that SHOULD have been eaten. 8LF is laughable because its so bad, but it's no spoof because your laughing at it and not with it.

Road to Perdition

Set in 1930s Chicago, Tom Hanks plays a gangster hitman who's oldest son witness the murder of another gangster. The mob puts hits on him and his family, leaving only him and his oldest son alive and on the run. But the hitman wants revenge and plots to murder those who destroyed his family and save his son's life. This is a movie I hope to see come Oscar time. Tom Hanks pulls a mighty performance as the hitman. Paul Newman is great as the mob godfather, and Jude Law's plays his twisted assassin character that will be remembered and Tyler Hoechlin is a great child actor. The story is witty and smart, all the characters are well acted and memorable. This is one of the best pictures I've seen this year and hope to see it again near Oscar time.

Reign of Fire

In the future the world has been destroyed by Dragons, and only a handful of survivors remain. A group of survivors near London meet up with some cocky Americans who believe they have the answer to destroying the flying beasts and rid the world of destruction. While I loved the idea of the modern world being over run by medieval dragons, but this movie just didn't have the action and many cool moments where never used. The world is past apocalypse and feels like Road Warrior. There's only two dragon battles and even those are just okay. I would have loved to see jets dogfight with the dragons and ground troops with tanks and missiles battling the dragons from the ground. But instead there's a tank (which never fires once) and a helicopter (which isn't armed) and they battle dragons by jumping out of the helicopter and trying to net it? I thought the idea was to kill them not catch them. Even the way dragons are discovered isn't explained vary well, they open a cave under London and a live dragon escapes. I can recommend RoF for its few cool dragon moments but that's about it. rent on video at best.

Six Teenagers sign up to spend the night in Michael Myers house for a live Internet broadcast. But little do thay know Micheal is in the house and doesn't want visitors and their only hope of surviving is an Internet buddy who's watching the broadcast and clues them to Michael's whereabouts. I did think the idea of a killer amongst a "Big Brother" type show was a good idea. but H:R never uses the idea with any brains. While H:R does take it self more seriously then Jason X or 8 Legged Freaks does, its cast of stupid sex driven teenagers drags the film down. Jamie Lee Curtis returns but her character is wasted, I would have liked it better if she appeared at the end instead of the beginning. While H:R is better the Halloween 4-6, its a down grade from 1-3 & H20.

Men in Black II

The world is about to be destroyed by an object aliens left on earth when "Kay" (Tommy Lee Jones) was an Agent. Now "Jay" (Will Smith) needs to bring "Kay" out of retirement and return his memory of being a Man in Black to find this object before an evil alien does and dooms the universe. The first MiB was a wonderful funny sci-fi that I think of as a classic. Sorry it can't be said for MiB2. While the humor of MiB2 is still on top, the story, villains and action is not. The films feels over edited and rushed to get to the end. The plot isn't explained vary well and the action is bland and doesn't hold up to the first MiB at all. The new villain is boring and just special effect eye candy. The ending is rushed, out of place and the villain was way to easy to defeat. I'd only recommend MiB2 for some good laughs and nothing else.

Meanwhile a tabloid TV show wants the dirt on Deeds and sends in a reporter pretending to be a small town school nurse to befriend Deeds and ruin his reputation. I was highly disappointed with Deeds. The story is predictable all the way to the end, and the only funny jokes you've already seen in the ads. The corporate CEO is a stereo type villain. The stunts that Deeds does are almost cartoony, the whole story feels like a terrible cartoon episode. A lot of this movie makes little or no sense at all. The only thing that saves this movie from being an Avoid is a few of the small town humor jokes. The crazy eyed loon was especially funny. I'd only recommend Deeds as a renter for a "couple" laughs.

Minority Report

In the future, three psychics are used to predict murders before they happen and cops arrest the killers before they commit the crime. But the lead cop (Tom Cruise) is fingered to murder a man that he's never meet. He avoids capture to prove that he's not going to murder anyone and show the system is wrong. MR will become a cult classic sci-fi film, I'd compare MR to other cult sci-fi films as Dark City and Gattica. The original plot is full of twists and turns that keeps you guessing, The story is smart and outwits itself. Tom Cruise does a great performance as the agent proving he's innocent, and the future looks spectacular. If you think MR is going to be a high action sci-fi with a large body count, you'll be disappointed. It's more of a crime thriller set in the future, with a few action moments. I highly recommend MR for anyone who loves original sci-fi's.

He soon finds out he's a CIA agent who's targeted to be terminated, he finds a woman who's willing to help him find out the truth about his past. While Bourne Identity is a decent espionage thriller, it's fast cutting action and plot holes make Bourne's Identity a tad confusing. Also the reason for Bourne's amnesia is barely touched, he's also a tad stupid about figuring out the pieces to his past. While the story of survival of bourne and the woman who helps him. The plot around the CIA wants bourne dead seems week.

Scooby-Doo

Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo break up from solving mysteries and go their separate ways. But two years later they are all invited to solve a mystery on Spooky Island. So the gang reunite to stop demons from steeling the souls of teenagers. I must say, this is one of the best animated based live-action movies I've seen in a long time. While Scooby-Doo is far from perfect, it's enjoyable because it makes fun of it's self. They make fun of all the rumors that fans have joked about for years. While the jokes on them self's are funny, the plot is worse then many from the animated series. They fight paranormal demons that possess teenagers who act like giant Gremlins, and the ending with the giant monster was really unnecessary. The Scooby-Doo gang doesn't fight demons and giant monsters, they think there's demons and giant monsters but then figure out its all a farce and reveal the culprit. I would watch Scooby-Doo again, unlike Flintstones or Inspector Gadget (shutter).

Windtalkers

During WWII, Navajo soldiers are used to send codes because the Japanese didn't know their language. Nicolas Cage plays a Marine Sergeant, who's mission is to protect the code from falling in enemy hands. Which means if there's a chance of them being captured, he must kill the Navajo soldier to protect the code. John Woo (Mission Impossible 2 & Face Off) who's known for slow motion wild action stunts directs a WWII movie. The characters are all likable and its slow-motion action doesn't take away the intense war battles. Cages character has many psychosomatic problems from a past battle and the idea of killing one of his own soldiers really eats him away. The Navajo soldier is also a great character, he's a pacifist who fights to pull the trigger and kill enemy soldiers. My only complaint I can give WT is it's unnecessary ending, it feels like John Woo is trying to copy Saving Private Ryan. But that aside I do recommend WT as an intense war film.

He agrees and pretends to be the high class art dealer his brother was, but discovers the mission isn't as easy as he thought because other terrorists want him dead because they want the bomb for them self. Bad Company is a weak action thriller at beat. The plot starts off on the right foot, but after the first hour, the movie is predicable and cliche. Chris Rock's dialog is ridiculous and even stupid. Sometimes I thing they are trying to be funny, but its mostly embarrassing. The ending of Bad Company is right out of action movie 101. The villains are stupid and the plot twists are confusing. I'd only recommend Bad Company as a rental.

Neo-Nazi's plan to destroy an American City with a nuclear bomb lost by Israel in the 70s, Then blame Russia and start a nuclear war between the two nations. But Jack Ryan (Ben Affleck) knows its not the Russians behind this terrorist attack and fights the clock to prove it. This is the fourth in the Jack Ryan films. Others where; Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger. The story is an edge of your seat nightmare, Showing how a nuclear war can happen. But Affleck is the worst of the actors playing Jack Ryan. I realize this is a prequel (of sorts) and Ryan's supposed to be a young CIA paper pusher. But his manner and acting doesn't have the seriousness of the other films. I liked tSoAF, but it needed a more serious actor to play the role of Ryan.

Another great idea that lost it's way. While there are many jokes in UB that are really funny, its plot, villains and campness ruins what could have been a great comedy spoof. There's way to many slow points in the film, The fight scenes are Charlie's Angels bad and Chris Kattan is annoying and is embarrassing to watch. UB could have been the Black Austin Powers, but instead its a few good laughs in a bad inspector gadget plot.

SW:AotC is a huge improvement from Phantom Menace, The characters have grown and developed vary well. You can really see how the Empire is slowly taking over. Another big improvement is vary little Jar-Jar. The final war against the Jedi's, clones and Droids is overwhelming, and Yoda's Lightsaber duel is a must see for any Star Wars fan. He uses his powers to help people but an evil psycho called the Green Goblin wants the web head dead if he won't join him in his conquest over the world. Spider-Man is a fun and highly enjoyable film, it's one of the best comic book movies made. There's a few flaws to Spider-man, mainly the Green Goblin. His motive is weak and has no reason want to kill Spider-Man other then he won't join him. Also Goblins "Armor" costume is a tad silly looking. But Spider-Man's story stays close to the original story and is entertaining to watch. An out of work Hollywood director gets the chance to direct a major Hollywood film. But after he loses his sight, he continues to make the movie even though he can't see anything he's filming. While the characters in this movie are enjoyable, it doesn't offer a lot of laughs. Woody Allen's character makes a film while blind and every one hates it, but we never get to see the movie. Also the ending is quick and misses many good jokes. Like it's title, a basic Hollywood ending. While there's some good jokes against the film business, it misses more then hits its target. Its mainly jokes on Woody Allen Hiding he's Blind. If your a fan of Woody Allen's humor its worth a rental at best.

In Jason X he's a serial killer who can't die so he's frozen and is found by students on a field trip to a lifeless earth 4000 years in the future. I guess hell froze over. This is one of the best comedies of the year, anyone who has family from the old country will be on the floor laughing. The Greek families ethnic ways are the best and every joke works, I loved the fathers Windex remedy for everything. The dialog is perfect, I have family like this myself. The action boring and the plot is so silly it's more like a bad story line from the WWF. Many parts of the film make no sense, you'll have to be in a headlock and hit many times in the head to enjoy this film. The Rock's acting is so ridiculously bad, its laughable. But a determined homicide detective see through the phony evidence and needs to link the crime to these two boys. This is a great thriller, Sandra Bullock has a great performance as the detective and the boy killers really feel like they are smart enough to pull off this crime. The killers and the detectives play mind games with each other and Bullock's character is full of emotional problems from her past and at times it gets in the way of her case. The only complaint I can give MbN is the one of the Killers who knows all the tricks the investigators use, falls for one and the discovery of the info is a tad illogical. But if you forget this flaw its a great suspense worth checking out.

The lawyer wants his file back, while the other is angry due to the time he lost when he missed his children's custody hearing. So the two battle each other until one does the right thing. This story feels like it can happen to anybody, both sides are pig headed and vengeful at each other and play what seems like a game of "I can do one better then that" just because the lawyer didn't do the right thing in the first place. There really isn't a villain in this film, they both are good people who made bad choices and can admit their wrong. I recommend CL not only as a good thriller, but as a lesson on what can happen by not doing the right thing in the first place.

While his younger brother believes his dad, he himself thinks his dad is a murderer and fears for his life. And now many years later he tells his story and leads an FBI agent to the truth behind the murders. This movie goes on my list of one of the best twist endings. The killer is wholesome and really believes he's doing the right thing, that murdering people in Gods name is his purpose in life. But not only is this film a great serial killer story, its a mystery as well. You'll be trying to figure out the truth behind the murders, as well as the FBI agent. HG is a good military court drama, but not a great one. While Morgan Freeman's character is fun to watch, and Ashley Judd also does a great performance. Its the plot and ending that need some justice. This job they plan goes so far wrong they should have left when they had the chance. While the characters, plot, suspense and cinematography where great, the only thing that fails is the ending. it's over the top Hollywood ending made my mouth drop to the floor. And if you are a fan, you'll be vary disappointed. The S.T.A.R.S. are not in the movie, which is mistake #1. There's no Tyrant, the characters are all bland and emotionless. While the dogs and Licker are cool, the zombies are bad makeup jobs for the most part. Also the techno-rock sound track doesn't belong in a horror movie. This movie is unfunny and every character is an uncaring moron. NOBODY in this film supports this man and his vow, His friends, his priest-to-be brother, not even his new found love. They are all against him and even try to ruin it. Many scenes are way to weird and feel forced, with a horrible ending. But my biggest beef with 40 Days is the new love finds out about his vow way to early in the film, all the potential jokes are out the window. Not only does it show our side, bot how the North Vietnamese strategies the battle. This movie like most modern war movies made today, is gory and makes you feel each bullet flying in the air. While it's nowhere near as good as other paranormal films as Sixth Sense, The Others or Stir of Echoes. Hart plays the defense lawyer, and tries prove that the pilot is not guilty of this crime and should not be executed by the Nazi's. HW is a good WWII film, but after the trail begins it starts to drag a little. And the Nazi's in this film are the most tolerant I've ever seen in a WWII film, the Nazi and the GI commanders are almost buddies. And I also would have like to seen some justice come to the Nazi commander. The other characters are told over a voice over what happened to them, but the villain is forgotten. The Mothman is scarier then most any other paranormal film in the last couple years. Most may find Mothman doesn't answer all their questions, and doesn't go over the top with special effects or goofy monsters.
