Movie | Description | Review
The Aviator | The life of Howard Hughes, a troubled industrialist who has a fear of germs is out to make the perfect movie, and create the biggest and best planes ever made. | Leonardo DiCaprio is wonderful as the troubled Hughes. His performance makes this a wonderful film. Martin Scorsese has made one of the best films of 2004. The only complaint I can give Aviator is it ends after the Spruce Goose and doesn't follow Hughes life after that. A must see. | Now on DVD |
Million Dollar Baby | A professional Male boxing trainer, takes on the task of training a female boxer. But this fighter who grew up as white trash, becomes a loved professional boxer who is hard to defeat. | This gem is one of the best of 2004. Clint Eastwood is at his best sense Unforgiven and Swank has out did her self in this role. You'll be pulled in to these characters real fast and be in tears by the end. The outcome of the last fight in the movie really made me upset. This movie will play with all of your emotions. A must see. | Now on DVD |
Meet The Fockers | After getting Married, the newlyweds take the Parents on a trip to meet the Focker parents. His mother is a sex therapist for elderly couples and his father is a homebody. | The Fockers is a great fun sequel, but only as a sequel. If you haven't seen Meet the Parents, then rent it first. Meet the Fockers is vary funny, but doesn't hold up the original. The crazy characters are what drive this movie, their crazy lifestyles and eccentric ways make this movie a fun time at the movies. | Now on DVD |
The Life Aquatic | An exotic marine oceanographer plans his next film to be on the hunt for a new breed of shark that killed his best friend. But finds out he has a son who he invites on his quest. | This a wonderful movie to look at, vary original in a crazy way. Bill Murray is at his best in this film. The movie is more dry wit then laugh out loud funny, but it works. A great character piece. The only complaint I can give the film is it sets it's self for a great conclusion, but leaves you floating at sea wanting more. I loved the film, just was hoping it was going a different direction. A high recommendation just on the characters and visuals alone. | Now on DVD |
Spanglish | A Mexican immigrant (who doesn't speak any English) gets a job as a house keeper for a rich family, but soon gets frustrated when her employers spoil her daughter in their lavish ways. | For those who was hoping for a wild Adams Sandler movie, this is not it. Spanglish is more of a character story, then a crazy comedy. The cast is wonderful, the story sweet and you can relate with at least one or more of the characters. The only complaint I can find with the movie is you don't find out the outcome of the daughter's letter. A great movie and a high recommendation. | Now on DVD |
Flight of the Phoenix | A plane crashes in the desert and is lost in an ocean in sand. They rebuild the wrecked plane into a new airplane to escape dying in the desert. | I'm not a huge fan of disaster films, but Phoenix is an enjoyable disaster film. At first glance one thinks this is going to be a predicable survival film where everyone knows who lives and who dies. But the movie proved me wrong. The plot does have a few holes in it that are left unanswered, and the editing is a tad sporadic. But I enjoyed the Phoenix as a fun survival film. | Now on DVD |
A Series of Unfortunate Events | Three children become orphans after their parents are killed in a fire. They are brought to their uncle who's bent out on getting his hands on the family's fortune. But has three kids to get rid of first. | This film is based on three popular children's books. While I never read any of the books, I Did enjoy this fun film. Jim Carey is funny as the crazy uncle and include some of the best children actors, especially the baby and her subtitled dialog. The look of this world is what really makes this an enjoyable film to look at, a true fairy tale world. A great movie for the whole family. | Now on DVD |
Oceans Twelve | The eleven plus one are back but in trouble. They are found by the casino owner and must repay the money they stole, but a rival crook makes a bet with them to pay their debt if they beat him to stealing a Faberge egg. | The first ocean was a great thief capper, but it's sequel is only enjoyable for it's top cast and a few jokes at them selves. But the plot is too simple with an even simpler conclusion. even the cinematography is shaky at times. I liked some of the characters, but the story was a tad under par. | Now on DVD |
Blade Trinity | Blade is set up for a crime as the vampires resurrect the body of the oringinal vampire Dracula to destroy Blade. | The first two Blade films where great action films, but Blade 3 feels like a watered down version of the series. Blade 3 is full of plot holes and unoringinal action. The movie has nothing new to add the series. The film tries to add more laughs then plot. While the heros are fun, the villain "Drucula" is dull. Blade 3 is barely worth seeing just for some fun moments. | Now on DVD |
Alexander | The legendary tale of the ancient leader Alexander, a man bent on uniting Europe and Asia and crossing the world. Starting wars to all those who don't share in his vision. | This is one of the longest three hours you'll ever spend watching a movie. Alexander is a slow moving movie that is a big mess. The Editing is at times confusing, the characters are boring and forgettable. There is a couple of gory war scenes, but even these are a disaster. Unless you want a good snooze at the movies, pass on this epic piece of crap. | Now on DVD |
Finding Neverland | A screenplay writer who's not having luck with his latest play, meets a widow and her three sons and through them creates the legendary story of Peter Pan. | A charming sweet tale, Johnny Depp is great as the creator of Peter Pan. A man who's board in life but finds life with a simple woman and her three boys. You'll even shed a tear by the end. If your looking for a great date movie, Finding Neverland is worth looking for. | Now on DVD |
National Treasure | A young boy discovers that his family knows about a treasure that was hidden by America's Founding Fathers. He spends his life finding this treasure that leads him to a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence. | National Treasure is a fun adventure into America's history. While the story is fiction, you do learn a few historic moments through the clues. The characters are enjoyable and the plot is somewhat smart. The Villain is generic, but he doesn't ruin the movie. It's almost a modern Indiana Jones adventures just with no Nazi's. Check out this fun treasure. | Now on DVD |
Sideways | A divorced wine taster and his soon to get married friend, go on a road trip tasting wine, forgetting his ex and trying to stop his friend from cheating on his fiancee. | This movie just drags for the first half, and picks up by the second. This is a character piece. The characters are interesting and frustrating and there was a lack of laughs in this film. Mostly wine jokes that 5% of the viewers understand. It's a bland forgettable character story that gets lost along the way. | Now on DVD |
The Polar Express | A child loses his belief in Santa Clause, then a magical train appears to take him and other children to the North Pole and meet Santa himself. | An instant Christmas classic, its a sweet Christmas fantasy that will go down in history as a classic tale for the holiday. My only complaint is that it could have had more humor, the know it all kid was TOO annoying and the songs are forgettable. Tom Hanks is wonderful in his multiple roles and the sweet tale will make you smile. I heart warming film for all ages.
Seed of Chucky | Chucky's son hunts down his "parents" to find out his true call in life, but only finds them to be evil and plot to be reborn through a surrogate mother. | I must really hate myself to want to go see movies like this. SoC is beyond horrible. The movie tries to be a funny horror film, but ends up an embarrassment on the screen. These Chucky movies have to end, just burn the doll and be done with it. SoC is a worthless waste of time and money. | Now on DVD |
The Incredibles | Super heroes are forced to go into hiding after being sued by the people they saved. They must hide their powers and act like normal people. But Mr. Incredible gets an offer to become a hero again and stumbles onto an evil plot by a super villain. | One of Pixar's best. Memorable characters, full of fun humor both adults and kids will enjoy. Much of the adult humor of married life will go over the kids head. The story is a fun spoof of super heroes, and movie the whole family can enjoy. A must see. | Now on DVD |
Ray | The autobiography of Ray Charles, how a poor blind boy became the legend. How he juggled two women, fought Racism and how he overcame heroin. | Give Jamie Foxx an Oscar nomination now. Foxx has done some great performances this year. When watching Ray you have to remind your self that its not really Ray Charles your watching. Foxx's Ray Charles makes this movie worth seeing alone. | Now on DVD |
Saw | A doctor wakes up to find himself chained to a pipe in a small room with another man, they are victims of a psycho who plays mind games to teach them to value life by murdering each other. | One of the best thrillers sense Seven, Saw is not a silly horror movie, it's a well thought out serial killer thriller. The movie is one big puzzle that puts several people's life's in jeopardy. The plot is smart with an ending that is perfect. If you like Seven, Saw is a must see. | Now on DVD |
The Grudge | A house keeper goes to fill in for a missing worker but finds the house is haunted by and angry spirit who kills all who enter. | The Japanese horror story is full of creepy images that will make your skin crawl. You may have nightmares from it's ghoulish visuals. But the characters, acting and bleak story really ruins Grudge as a horror classic. This film is similar to the Ring. but unlike the Ring, Grudge has no resolution to its horror. You step in the house, your screwed, end of story. Grudge is worth checking out for it's ghouls but not worth it for everything else. | Now on DVD |
Surviving Christmas | A rich lonely man visits his childhood home and pays the family living there to give him the perfect Christmas he never had. | Well, one good thing I can say about this movie, you get to see Ben Affleck get hit over the head with a shovel. Other then that Surviving Christmas is dull holiday drivel that is rushed through like shopping on December 24th. Affleck is horrible. This movie needed a comedian to play the part, this might have saved an other wise dumb movie. The movie offers a few chuckles that makes it somewhat enjoyable but overall it's a present you'll want to return the next day. | Now on DVD |
Final Cut | In the future, babies are implanted with a chip that records their entire life. When they die their best moments are shown as a movie to the family, but one person who edits these films finds something in one of the memories that's been haunting him all his life. | Robin Williams pulls off another memorable performance as the Cutter. It's one of those good character stories where a man is haunted by his past and by this technology he can find out the truth to his life. It also makes a good point on how our life's are private and how recording our lives could ruin ones life. | Now on DVD |
Team America: World Police | When Terrorists plan to use WMD's to destroy the world and turn it into a third world country, a team of secret agents are called to save the day and bring the terrorist's down. | At first glance TAWP looks like one of the worst movies ever, the movie is all acted out with string puppets and toys. The movie is one of the silliest looking movie ever seen, but the political humor is what makes this movie worth seeing. You can help but laugh at its jokes and crappie puppets. If you like South Park style humor, you'll get a kick out of this puppet show. | Now on DVD |
Ladder 49 | When a firefighter is trapped in a burning building, his life flashes before his eyes while his fellow firefighters struggle to rescue him. | Ladder 49 is a movie that really makes on appreciate what a firefighter goes through. While the story is predictable, the characters are what make this movie work. John Travolta does a great job as the captain and Joaquin Phoenix also burns the screen with his performance. Ladder 49 is a good movie that's worth checking out even if it is predictable. | Now on DVD |
Shark Tale | An ordinary fish becomes famous when he is thought to have slain a shark. The shark he killed was the son of a mobster shark and he befriends the brother of the slain shark who is not excepted by his father because of his vegetarian lifestyle. | Shark Tale is a fun tale with some funny moments. But compared to other classic computer animated movies, Shark Tale is at the bottom of the ocean. The story is full urban hip-hop that gets old quick, with a "Accept me for my lifestyle" after school special plot. The characters are okay, but are nowhere as memorable as Shrek or Nemo. I liked Shark Take, it just didn't wow me to thinking of it as a classic. | Now on DVD |
The Forgotten | After a plane accident claims the life of her son, she wakes up one day to find her son has been erased from existence. She is told her son never existed, but she believes he did and searches to find the truth. | I was really disappointed in Forgotten. The movie's plot is full of unanswered questions, and is so predictable it's boring. While there are moments that will make you jump out of your seat. The ending is a silly "Hollywood" ending that feels tacked on. And the reason behind the missing kids seems dumb. This movie will be forgotten and never become a classic it could have been. forget The Forgotten. | Now on DVD |
Shaun of the Dead | A simple electronic store manager is dumped by his girlfriend and wakes up the next day to find the city is plagued with flesh eating zombies, so he must fight to stay alive while saving his friends and making up with his girl friend. | The story sounds like the dumbest thing you've ever heard? Well, your right. SotD is a really stupid, but it's a great spoof on "Living Dead" movies. I found myself laughing for most of the movie, it's silly English humor works. The only complaint is it takes it self serious near the end, but still ends with a great laugh. SotD is a stupid movie worth seeing a great spoof. | Now on DVD |
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow | Strange robots are attacking the city and a fighter pilot with a unique fighter plane named sky Captain is called in to fight these evil machines. But an ex girlfriend reporter could stand in his way in unlocking the mystery. | The movie is set in pre World War II area, so its a sci-fi set in late 30s, Its almost fells like Star Wars and Indiana Jones' love child. The design of the world is based on old sci-fi comic books of the 40s. Its a fun action romp not to be taken to seriously. The movie is full of unrealistic and technical errors, but this doesn't ruin the movie in any way. Sky Captain is an original fun time at the movie that all should see. | Now on DVD |
Resident Evil: Apocalypse | The T-virus has spread through out Raccoon City, so the Umbrella Corporation closes down the city and sends in a killing machine mutant called "Nemesis" to cover up the accident. But a handful of survivors are trying to escape the city before they are zombie food. | While RE2 feels more like the RE3 video game, it still is a far cry from a good movie. Jill and the S.T.A.R.S. team appear, but their characters are bland and dull. The main hero Alice returns but now she's a killing machine with super powers. Her character really felt out of place in an RE movie. Nemesis was cool, and there where more zombies in RE2 then the first one. But the film feels like a bad cheesy action flick, then a survival horror. Rental at best. | Now on DVD |
Cellular | A woman and her family are kidnapped, but she puts together a broken and gets a hold of an outsider who answers his cell phone and becomes her only lifeline to save their lives. | While the idea of Cellular is a cool idea, the movie plays up to laughs more then a thriller. The acting is poor with dum dialog, and a lot of the plot suffers from "only in the movies" syndrome. I liked Cellular and enjoyed it on some levels, it's just not thriller I wanted it to be. Light recommendation if you have nothing else to see. | Now on DVD |
Paparazzi | An action star is stalked by Paparazzi photographers who force him into a car accident and he is bent to take revenge on those who harmed him and his family. | This must be every Movie Stars dream. It show how these photographers only care about getting a shot that will make them rich even if it harms and ruins peoples lives. It make you feel good to see these people get the table turned on them and have the star stalk them. Paparazzi is even full of star cameos which are fun. The movie isn't perfect, The acting is less then average, and the bad guys do the classic stupid moves and get them in the end. Paparazzi is worth checking out just as fun revenge flick on those camera stalkers. | Now on DVD |
Hero | An ancient Chinese hero is brought to the emperor to tell his story on how he killed three assassins planning to murder the emperor. And this hero has the power to unite China or end the war between the nations of China. | If your a fan of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, then Hero is a must see. The action is wild and unbelievable. The shots in the film are like nothing else on film. It's unrealistic, but you really don't care. If you love kung-fu movies then this film is for you. The only complaint on hero is it's ending, it feels unnecessary. It doesn't ruin the movie, but you don't want it to end this way. High marks on Hero. | Now on DVD |
Open Water | Two tourists get stranded in the middle of the ocean after a scuba diving adventure. And they struggle to stay alive while adrift waiting rescue. | I think a child with the cheapest camera could have made a better movie then Open Water. The film looks like a home movie, the actors are amateurs and the story goes nowhere. You really don't care about these two stuck in the ocean and by the end you feel like you were robbed of your money. This film could have worked if it had a better team of writers and actors. Open Water makes my worst of the year list for sure. | Now on DVD |
Exorcist: The Beginning | Taking place in the 1940s after WWII, an ex priest is sent to unlock the secrets to a church that was built before Christ and barred. But soon discovers the Church was built to enslave an evil demon. | Why did this movie get made, The original was one of the best horrors ever made, part 2 was junk, 3 was a decent sequel and 4 is only slightly better then 2. The first half of this movie is boring, the second half it starts to pick up, but tries to hard to repeat the first movie. They make a few good points on the demon, but fail to make this movie scary or entertaining. Exorcist 4 is only worth a rental at best. | Now on DVD |
Alien vs. Predator | When a pyramid is found under the South pole ice caps, a team of specialists are sent to discover the secrets of this great find. But soon they discover that its a trap to bread aliens for predators to hunt. | While the plot has more holes in it then Swiss cheese, the human characters are dull, and much of the movie doesn't make a lick of sense. But we get to see Predators kick Alien butt. This is the only reason AvP is getting a light recommendation. This is "dumb entertainment" plain and simple. Like the Jason vs. Freddy movie. A movie where you get to see two classic monsters battle it out and forget about the rest of the movie. AvP is nowhere as good as the first two Alien and predator films, but is better then Alien 3 and resurrection. So for a fun time at the movies is the only reason to check out AvP. | Now on DVD |
Collateral | A taxi driver picks up a man that ends up forcing the driver to take him to the people on his hit list. | This is one of the best movies of the year, Jamie Foxx is fabulous as the simple taxi driver, and Tom Cruise make a perfect killer. The story has a realistic feel and is an edge of your seat thriller with memorable characters. Collateral is a must see, hop into a taxi and check it out. | Now on DVD |
The Village | A small village set in the 1800s are trapped by monsters who live in the woods that surround them, when one man is injured, his blind girlfriend will stop at nothing to save him and travels into the forest to seek the medicine that will save his life. | This is M. Night Shyamalan's fourth movie, and maybe his weakest. The creatures are barely in the movie and the reason behind the creatures is a little hard to swallow. I liked the twist, but fell unfulfilled that no one really finds out the truth. This film is more romance then horror. Unbreakable is still Shyamalan's best work and recommend The Village as a rental at best. | Now on DVD |
The Manchurian Candidate | A group of soldiers are kidnapped and brainwashed that when a phrase is heard they will do their masters bidding. years later One of those men is running for Vice President and another soldier is starting to recall the horror from his past and must stop this man from being someone else's puppet of power. | As always Denzel Washington shows what being an actor is all about. His outstanding performance make the movie better and more thrilling. The movie is a remake of a 1962 film with Frank Sinatra, and this movie is directed like a film from the 60s at times. A lot of extreme close ups and mellow dramatic acting, with a slight twist. A high recommendation just on Denzel alone. | Now on DVD |
Catwoman | A young art designer (Halle Berry) is killed After witnessing a crime, she is resurrected by an ancient rare Egyptian cat and now she has cat like abilities. She now seeks revenge on those who killed her and is framed for crime herself. | Halle Berry, The Oscars called and want their Oscar back. Halle is a great actress, but this was a bad career choice. The dialog is like nails to a chalkboard bad. The plot is silly and there isn't a smart character in the movie. It feels like Catwoman should have been a syndicated TV show more then a movie. I think cleaning a cats litterbox would be more entertaining then this movie. Avoid at all costs. | Now on DVD |
The Bourne Supremacy | The Bourne story continues when he's set up for murder and CIA hunts him down. But Bourne doesn't know he's been set up and he hunts the ones who made him the killer and the truth to his past. | The Bourne movies are a great suspense action. Matt Damon is perfect in the role, and his quick style action work for this ex-assassin. The shaky camera directing is annoying at times, but forgivable. The car chase is the best action scene in the movie, you'll be on the edge of your seat from it. The plot is a tad confusing, and can be easily missed. Overall the movie works and does get a high recommendation. | Now on DVD |
I, Robot | In a future where robots are as common as a TV, Will Smith plays a cop who doesn't trust the machines and investigates the murder of a scientist who created a new make of robot that is about to be released to the public and the prime suspect is one of those robots. | In one of the best movies of the summer, I, Robot is an action packed, with good characters, a smart plot and is well written that is puts most other summer movies to shame. Will Smith is at his best in this action sci-fi, and the special effects are top notch. You really believe this robot as a real character. I, Robot is one of the best of the summer. | Now on DVD |
Anchorman | A news anchorman who's on the top of his game in the man leading world of the 1970s, falls when a pretty woman is forced to co-anchor with him. | Anchorman is one of those movie that only gets a few chuckles here and there but never gets laughs it needs to become a great comedy. Will Ferrell is sometimes funny but most of the jokes are dull. The story is all over the place that mach don't make sense, This would have been a good Saturday Night Live sketch but as a movie just doesn't work. | Now on DVD |
King Arthur | The "true" tale of how King Arthur and his knights became legend. | Based on a book that researched the legend, King Arthur make the man seem more real. Clive Owen who plays Arthur is wonderful as the would be king, his acting alone sells this movie. The war scenes are well done, but I would have liked it to have felt more real. The villain also was memorable in his performance. King Arthur is a great medieval tale worth checking out. | Now on DVD |
Napoleon Dynamite | A simple story about a geek campaigning to get his friend as school president, while cooping with his geek of a family. | Dynamite is one of those memorable character movie that will have you laughing at how weird this guy and his life is. But the movie has no smart characters to play off these strange geeks. The one shy girl is as close as it gets. Dynamite is beyond geek, and if you know anyone like this character. Seek him help. | Now on DVD |
Spider-Man 2 | Spider-Man returns to find a brillent scinetist goes mad after an experamnet goes wrong. The mechanical arms A.I. turns the scientist into Doctor Octopus who will destroy the city if he continues his experaments. | Spider-Man 2 is one of the best comic book movies sense Batman. Spidey 2 out shines the first Spider-Man by far in every way. Characters, plot, the Villain and humor. Spidey 2 works in every way. The plot reminds me a lot of Superman 2, and part 2 was the best in that series as well. Spider-Man 2 is worth checking out. | Now on DVD |
Fahrenheit 9/11 | Michael Moore's documentary on George Bush, 9/11 and the war in Iraq. | This movie is all Michael Moore's opinion on George Bush. A lot of it seems like liberal propaganda and half truths. While Michael Moore makes some good points, and gets many cheap laughs at Bush. But a lot of his "documentary" feels like Michael Moore on a soap box screaming cover ups and conspiracies. The movie is worth checking out if you really like to debate politics. I only ask you don't take this film as fact and remember this is film is an anti-Bush bash fest. Vote on the issues and not on this film. | Now on DVD |
Dodgeball | When a big gym threatens to force a small gym to go out of business. The small gym enters a dodgeball tournament to raise the money needed to save their gym, but the big gym wants them to lose so they to enter the tournament to crush the little gym. | The plot sound stupid? That's pretty much the movie in a nutshell. Dodgeball is a farce on the sport movie, and it follows the formula to a tee. The movie is mostly three stooges humor, if you like seeing a man get hit in the groin with a dodgeball over and over again then you'll love this movie. The characters are overacted cartoon characters in a story that makes no sense. There are a few cheap laughs to barely recommend it, but unless you love silly slapstick I'd say dodge this ball. | Now on DVD |
The Terminal | An immigrant from the eastern Europe area, travels to New York to find he's stuck in the airport because his homeland is at war and it's government is overthrown. His county isn't reconized by the USA anymore and he loves his passport and is forced to live in the airport until his country is again recognized by the USA. | The claims that this is based on a "true story" is vary thin, but the idea does work. The characters are what make this movie enjoyable. Tom Hanks is perfect in the role, you forget he really knows English. At times the movie gets a tad silly or unrealistic, you'll roll your eyes a few times. There are some memorable funny moments and when Tom Hanks is on screen you can't help but love his character. I highly recommend The Terminal for Tom Hanks but I have to give it a light recommendation for its many flaws. | Now on DVD |
Chronicles of Riddick | An evil cult evades planets to convert people to their beliefs or die. The planets only hope lies in a wanted prisoner who has special eyes that enables him to see in the dark. | Riddick has some fun action and special effects, but this is really it. I liked the idea of an evil cult converting the galaxy to their religion and the design of their Goth world, but much of the plot side tracks. The whole Prison and bounty hunters parts could have been cut and never missed. And the reason why Riddick was the only one that could save the world really wasn't made clear. This is a sequel to Pitch Black, an Alien movie wannabe. Riddick is barely worth a rental. | Now on DVD |
Garfield the Movie | A simple fat lazy cat has everything in life he could want, until his owner "Jon" brings home a hyper dog "Odie". When Odie is dognapped, Garfield sets out to save Odie. | Garfield is another one of those great movies that was thrown in the trash. While Garfield is funny the rest of the movie is embarrassing to watch. The human characters are nothing like the comic strip, Jon is boring. There should be no villain in Garfield. The whole kidnapping plot goes beyond horrible. The movie should have been a simple story of Garfield learning to except Odie and more of Garfield making fun of Jon's sad attempts to get his veterinarian to like him. I can only barely recommend Garfield for couple fun laughs. | Now on DVD |
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban | Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts and discovers a killer has escaped Azkaban Prison to hunt down Harry. But when he finds out the prisoner is linked to his parents death, he seeks to find the killer himself before the Azkaban death hunters do. | Harry Potter 3 is the darkest of the three movies. Young children might get a little scared. The story reveals more to Harry's past and the plot thickens. The returning cast are at their best in the third Potter, the cast are perfect and get better with each movie. They better keep the same cast to finish the series. The new director does a fine job and make the whole film more darker, with camera shots that are nothing like the first two Potter films. Harry Potter 3 is definitely worth checking out. | Now on DVD |
The Day After Tomorrow | When the polar ice caps melt, it causes chaos in the northern half of the globe. Tornados, floods and a second ice age. A group struggles to survive until help arrives. | In disaster films, there's a formula. One man discovers this disaster coming, no one believes him and a group of people struggle to survive. TDAT is no exception. The movie is so formula it's almost boring. The characters are all dull. The film is over the top preachy on global warming, and there's more holes in the plot then in the ozone. The only reason TDAT is not getting an avoid rating is it's special effects. If you want to see the world get destroyed go see TDAT, if not stay home. | Now on DVD |
Shrek 2 | Shrek sets out to meet his new wife's parents and find that's he's not the prince charming they hoped for. | Shrek 2 is a fun hilarious sequel, its feels more of a spoof on modern pop culture taking place in the fairy tale world. The new character Puss in boots is a great addition to the cast. Shrek 2 is a non stop laugh fest that everyone can enjoy. Shrek 2 is one of the best of the year for the whole family. | Now on DVD |
Troy | The classic Greek tale by Homer comes to life in Troy, A war between two cities for power and love. | Troy is a wonderful epic that bring true life to the myth. You almost fell that this tale could have really happened. Brad Pitt is great as Achilles, one of the best I've seen by Pitt. If you like movie such as Braveheart and Gladiator then Troy is your kind of movie. | Now on DVD |
Van Helsing | A vampire hunter is sent out to Transylvania to kill Dracula him self and stopping him from raising his offspring from the dead. | while the movie is a fun ride of adventure and action, the story is where this movie drops dead. Some of the characters where enjoyable, others where just terrible, mainly Frankenstein. The plot is full of so many holes and dumb cliches that if you think at all while watching this movie you'll want to leave. The fun action is the only thing that makes Van Helsing really worth checking out. A light recommendation for a "leave your brain at the door" action ride. | Now on DVD |
Envy | When a blue collar worker invents Poo-b-gone (a spray that devolves dog poop) and becomes rich, his best friend and neighbor is eaten up buy jealousy because he turned down investing in his invention. | Envy is one of the most forgettable and non-funny films ever seen. I think I heard two chuckles at the most. Ben Stiller and Jack Black are both great cometic actors, but this film gives them nothing to work with. The story is predicable and the characters are dull. I really can't think of any reason to recommend this film so forget it. | Now on DVD |
Godsend | When a couple loses there only son to an auto accident, a scientist seeks them out and wants to clone their dead son so they can raise him all over again. But when the child surpasses his original death age, a new secret horror is uncovered. | Godsend is a decent thriller, but far from being a great thriller. The movie has a few twists, but none that are shocking. Robert De Niro and Greg Kinnear are good but far from their best. The movie feels unfinished, nothing gets resolved and your left thinking "that's it?" Godsend is okay and lightly worth checking out. | Now on DVD |
Man on Fire | An ex-assassin is hired to be the bodyguard to a young girl, but when she's kidnapped and never seen again, he takes revenge on all who where involved in her disappearance. | Denzel Washington is spectacular as the vengeful bodyguard, a little girl give this depressing assassin a reason to live. And Denzel plays his hate driven character to the top. The movie is a great vengeful tale with a few twists, but the ending is where this great story falls. The ending falls short, You feel his vengeance quest isn't complete. Man on Fire is worth checking out for everything but it's end. | Now on DVD |
Kill Bill vol. 2 | Continuing the story of the vengeful bride, The Bride tracks down the last of the Viper Assassination squad and takes revenge on those who tired to kill her. | Kill Bill vol. 1 was a thrilling action packed thrill ride, it was the best of Anime, Kung-Fu, Samurai and western movies. Vol. 2 is a let down compared to vol. 1, There's vary little action, Bill is great, but appears a little too much in my opinion. The final battle is to quick and there's many unnecessary moments. Vol. 2 is mostly the western part of the tale. The characters still hold up and there are a couple fun kung-fu parts, but overall this movie is a disappointment. I recommend Vol. 2 for those who want to see how the movie ends. | Now on DVD |
The Punisher | When a cop's whole family is murdered by a crime lord, he vows revenge to kill all those responsible | Comparing This Punisher with the early 90s Punisher, the new Punisher is far better then the 90s version. The story is more dark and the Punisher is a more depressing hate filled man. The story is good and the actors do their best in the roles. The main complaint with Punisher is the writing, The whole film fells like a made for video movie with sub-par dialog. I liked Punisher, but it's far from being one of the best comic book character movies. | Now on DVD |
The Alamo | A small group of "soldiers" are ordered to guard the Alamo, protecting it from the Mexican army and taking over Texas. | The Alamo is a great moment in American history, where 300 men fight against 1000 Mexican soldiers. The movie is a great adaption of the histortic tale. Billy Bob Thornton is at his best as Davey Crockett, he portrays the legend as a simple man just protecting Texas. Remember the Alamo. | Now on DVD |
Hellboy | A secret government agency that uses the paranormal against evil. One being Hellboy, a demon who was brought to destroy the world, but fights against evil instead. | Hellboy is one of the best comic book movies sense X-Men. Hellboy is a cool comic hero who stands out above some of the other comic book movies. The characters are great the plot is fun and the action is top. The special effects are good, and Hellboys remarks will keep you laughing. Hellboy is a welcome to comic book movies. | Now on DVD |
Walking Tall | When a soldier returns home, he finds the town has changed. A casino rules the town and is slowly destroying it by selling drugs. The cops work for the casino, so the soldier takes his town back by becoming the new sheriff. | The Rock is walking tall in his WWE movie career, with Walking Tall and Rundown being some great fun action movies. (we'll forget the Scorpion King) The Rock is the next big action star. Walking Tall is a remake of a true story movie in the 70's. But the new version is more of an action movie, then a true event film. Other then a soldier back from a war taking over a town ruled by thugs, there's nothing true about the Rock's version. Walking Tall gets a high recommendation as a fun action movie. | Now on DVD |
The Ladykillers | A little old lady gets a visit from a nice gentleman who wants to rent a room from her and use her basement for his "church" music band to practice in. But in reality the men are using her basement to dig a tunnel into a casino vault. | The Coen brothers have made another fun movie with great cast and characters. Tom Hanks is funny as the con artist, the whole caper is funny and the little old lady is perfect. Ladykillers is a must see for any one who's loved Fargo or O Brother Where Art Thou. | Now on DVD |
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed | Scooby and his band of mystery solving friends return to battle several of the monsters they fought in the past to save their city from destruction | While the first Scooby-Doo was semi enjoyable, Scooby-Doo 2 is a yawn fest of campy dullness. This movie almost put me to sleep. Again the plot is way to supernatural, and could have been written for a TGIF sitcom. The movie little to no laughs and the characters are worse then the old cartoon series. Lets let this sleeping dog lie and move on. | Now on DVD |
Taking Lives | A FBI Agent is investigating a murder case in Canada where a killer is murdering men and taking over their lives. | This is one of the most predictable thrillers from beginning until the vary end. Angelina Jolie is bland as the FBI agent and the plot is fill of holes and unoringinal. I can just barely recommend Taking lives just to take some time out of your life. | Now on DVD |
Jersey Girl | A high profile publicist falls in love and has a baby, but when he loses his wife, he must raise the girl and juggle his career on his own. | Jersey Girl is Kevin Smith's 6th film but it's only sub-par in it's humor. The story is sweet and the characters pull at your heart strings, but it's nowhere as good and the "Jersey" series Kevin Smith is known for. If you don't know the Jersey series its the movies with Jay & Silent Bob. Jersey Girl has nothing to do with the series, which I'm not sure why, it is set in New Jersey. The story is cute with a few laughs but it's fluff compared to Clerks, Dogma and Chasing Amy. I light recommendation just as a nice sweet kid story. | Now on DVD |
Dawn of the Dead | A virus spreads across the globe killing and turning it's victims into flesh eating zombies. A few survivors are trapped in a shopping mall trying to figure out a way to escape the undead. | Dawn is a fine remake of the gory classic, it's the best of the recent zombie flicks. The story is flawed and the editing could have been a lot better. The plot seems like a quick fix to their problem and many characters are the cliche horror movie people. While better then House of the Dead and 28 Days Later, it still doesn't beat the classic dead movies. | Now on DVD |
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind | After a terrible break up with his girlfriend he finds a clinic to erase every memory about her. But while the procedure was taking place, his mind fights to keep the happy moments he had with his one time love. | Jim Carey in his best performance in years. This movie shows how changing history by erasing it isn't worth it. It's funny and full of memorable characters. At first your not sure where the film is taking this idea, but by the end you understand that you shouldn't erase the past. I highly recommend Eternal Sunshine, you won't forget it. | Now on DVD |
Secret Window | Based on a Stephen King short story, An author (Johnny Depp) is stalked by a strange man who claims he stole his story. And he has three days to prove he wrote the story first or the strange man will destroy his life. | Johnny Depp makes another memorable performance, His odd style of acting and quirks he adds to the character makes him stand out. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end, The twist in the end is a tad predictable but this doesn't ruin the movie any. Much on this movie reminds me of The Shining, just not as scary and more of a mystery thriller. Secret Window is worth looking through. | Now on DVD |
Starsky & Hutch | A comedy based on a TV show from the 70s, Starsky & Hutch are undercover cops who are investigating a body linked to a drug load who's planning to flood the city with a new cocaine. | S&H is a fun parody of the classic series, while the TV series is terrible, the movie is a fun parody of the 70s. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work great the crime fighting duo. The plot is silly and unoriginal, but the characters make this cop buddy film work. S&H gets a light recommendation for a fun time at the movies. | Now on DVD |
Hidalgo | Based on a true western hero Frank T. Hopkins and his horse Hidalgo. Frank enters a race across the middle east and risks death to win Hidalgo's final race. | Hidalgo is one of the best horse films sense Seabiscuit. Your pulled into this great classic tale of survival. The characters are on target, and the horse steals the show. Any one who loves horses must see Hidalgo. | Now on DVD |
The Passion of the Christ | The story of the last days of Jesus Christ and his crucifixion. | Mel Gibson has made a masterpiece. The movie follows the Bible word for word with only a little added. Mostly with Satan taunting Jesus. The movie is brutal to watch, this is not a film for young children. I even flinched I few times from the gore, but the movie is meant to show you the horrors that Jesus went though to save us, and make you appreciate his sacrifice. The film is all subtitled, and is makes it fell more real then if it was in English. I highly recommend The Passion for everyone mature enough to handle the violence and even to those who are not religious. | Now on DVD |
Eurotrip | After sending a hateful e-mail to his pinpal in Germany, he finds out his pinpal is a girl in love with him. So he and his friends travel across Europe for get to Berlin and find the girl and win her back. | While the plot of Eurotrip is simple and a silly, their adventure across Europe is hilarious. The film starts out slow with chuckles, but half way though the trip you'll laugh so hard you'll miss part of the movie. There's many classic funny moments in Eurotrip that this is what makes this film checking out. | Now on DVD |
50 First Dates | A marine doctor (Adam Sandler) falls in love with a girl (Drew Berrymore) who is brain damaged with no short term memory. She forgets that she fell in love with him every time she falls asleep and he must find ways to make her fall in love with him over and over again. | 50FD is a lovely romantic comedy that works on many levels. Adam Sandler is funny is his role and Drew Barrymore is sweet. The plot is at times hard to swallow, but the films characters will hold your attention. While 50FD isn't Adam Sandlers best work, is charming and funny enough to lightly recommend. | Now on DVD |
The Butterfly Effect | a young boy has unexplained black outs as a kid, years later in college he figures out he can go back in time by entering his body as a kid when those black out accrued. He tries to correct the mistakes of his life but soon discovers that he makes things worse by trying to change the past. | This is a cool concept that works on many levels, the plot is well thought out show how a changing the past can make things worse. This is Ashton Kutcher's best work to date, far from the stupid characters as in "Dude, Where's My Car?" I'd have to compare this movie with Frequency, a story about changing the past for the better. The concept could have been a disaster, but The Butterfly Effect pulls it off and gets a highly recommend. | Now on DVD |
Along Came Polly | An insurance risk annalist (Ben Stiller) who lives life by never taking risks, falls in love with a Live by the seat of your pants woman (Jennifer Aniston) who can't make a commitment to anything. | This is a lovely sweet romantic comedy that both Ben and Jennifer make work. Stiller is funny as the play it safe prude, who's just tring to impress a girl who's nothing like him. The plot is your basic lost a love and find a new love story, just ad an ex-child star friend and a blind pet ferret to make the simple story work. The movie works in many levels and gets my recommendation. | Now on DVD |
Torque | A motor Cyclist gets in trouble when he is framed for the murder of a motor cycle gang leader's brother. So he's on the run from the gang, hog riding drug dealers and a cop in a Hummer. | This movie is worse then Fast and the Furious, It's all over exaggerated stunts that go beyond realistic. These Bikers must be invincible. The plot is stupid, the dialog is so bad it makes fun of Fast and Furious. Fast and the Furious looks like an Oscar contender compared to Torque. Avoid, run, run fast! | Now on DVD |
