RAINBOW SIX

Rainbow Six has finally made it to the PSX, N64 and soon Dreamcast. (this review is based on the PSX version of course)
This popular PC game has been a best seller for the PC for a long time. How does it stack up?

First the story and gameplay, You play as a elite terrorist fighting force (no not GI*JOE) and have missions to kill all terrorists and save hostages and defuse bombs.
The gameplay is a first person shooter. You set up your three soldiers with a rifle, pistol, armor and what ever else you might need. You don't find weapons or ammo in the missions, whatever you take with you is all you have. You can control three different soldiers and any time, and if one dies, the mission is not over. (just that solder) You'll have nine different soldiers to use for all the missions. If one is wounded, you can not use him again until he heals. If he dies. you'll have one less soldier to choose from.

The graphics are not the best in a first person shooter, flat, blocky and the animation is vary jumpy. The control is another downfall. there's only three control options and most are not vary helpful. The missions are challenging and if you play above easy, it can be extremely hard! The Computer AI is smart (they will chase you and can alert others to your location) but it's far from being like Goldeneye or Medal of Honor.

Another complaint is there's no new weapons to earn or find in the game. Just several Machine guns and a shotgun. The weapons they supply are cool, but a few more couldn't have hurt. The levels are huge and have tons of places to explore, you can even hide and sniper a terrorist. You can use one soldier to kill all the terrorist and clear a path while another protects a hostage. I liked Rainbow Six and look forward to it's sequel "Rogue Spear" which is coming to the PSX soon according to Red Storm. Rainbow Six is a great game to have on PSX, if it didn't have all it's flaws. It's worth a rent if nothing else.
