Resident Evil has FINALLY made it to the N64. With Resident Evil 2.
And for the first time in history FMV on a cartridge game. I'm not kidding. Real full motion video. It's doesn't play as well as the PSX version. I little washed out and grainy. but it holds up.
The game graphics are done just as well as the PSX version and has every thing the PSX version had to offer. (except the EX mode the Dual Shock version had) The only thing added the this version is a Violence and Blood color select. (good old Nintendo) "Aaaa, I'm oozing blue blood!"
The only complaint I can say on the graphics is the fire effects. PSX did a much better job. The flames look almost fake in this version.
For those who only owned a N64 and never tried a RE game. here's the story. A rookie cop named Leon and Chris' Sister Claire have come to Raccoon city only to find the city in chaos. The undead have taken over the city and only a handful have survived. A virus is spreading through the city making every one become a zombie.
You'll also encounter mutants of every shape and form. Also you'll be hunted by Mr. X. (Tyrant in a trench coat) intact are the second scenarios and secret survivor missions. (Tofu & Hunk)
I also like they added a battery back up so there's no need for a memory card.
The worst feature on RE2 for N64 is the sound. (what a surprise) It sounds like it's off a bad phonograph. There's almost a lite static that filters the sound. The music sounds nice. but the voices and effects.....ugh.
Overall, If you never played Resident Evil 2 on the Playstation and only own a N64 then this is definitely worth playing. If you never played RE2 and own both systems. Get the PSX Dual Shock version.
