RISING ZAN: THE SAMURAI GUNMAN

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

Ever watch a old Japanese fighting movie? Where the story and action are way over the top. Well that's how Rising Zan plays. This game has one of those love hate feels. One minute your thinking "This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen" and the next "Wow that was awesome." In Rising Zan you play a cowboy (who thinks he's the sexiest man alive) who is trained in the ways of the samurai. He return to his town and finds (now get this) a evil clan of ninja's has taking over the town in search for gold. and the ninja's have turned the town into a small Japan. One minute your shooting it out in the streets of a western town, the next fighting a Sumo Wrestler in a Dojo. Other enemies include straw crosses with nails, orbs, fire breathing fat guys, and other enemies too weird to even try to explain.

There are real voice acting in this game and it makes Resident Evil's Dialogue look like Shakespeare. But inspite of the weird story and characters the game is a blast to play. Zan not only uses a gun and Sword but also learns special moves and a targeting system. And there's test of strength area's where you rapidly hit all the buttons as fast as you can to destroy a target. There's even a second character to play once you beat the game. The graphics are nothing special but do hold up and the sound is vary corny.

The controls isn't to bad, but the biggest complaint is not being able to run and target a enemy at the same time. Although you are able to dodge. Rising Zan is worth renting, if nothing else for a good laugh. And you love those old corn ball Japanese movies, then this game is definitely for you.
