RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN:
TIDES OF WAR

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

There’s been many great First Person Shooters (FPS) out there, and many are on the X-Box.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is definitely in the top ten.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is set in WWII, You’re a US agent out to discover why the Nazi’s are using the occult and if the rumor of a super soldier is true.
You are sent in to destroy the Nazi’s secret weapons that threat the rest of the world.
The story almost sounds like its from Medal of Honor. While Medal of Honor is more realistic and tries to stay true to the facts of WWII, Wolfenstein adds a little science fiction to the mix.
So not only are you killing Nazi storm troopers, but also Mutants and zombies of all kinds.

The campaign mode is excellent, you’ll have a blast blowing away Nazi’s and using all sorts of weapons.
A knife, Colt 45, Luger, MP-40 machine gun, Thompson M1A1 machine gun, Sten Machine Gun (silenced and powerful but over heats), FG-42 machine gun, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Silenced Sniper Rifle with night vision, Baseball and Stick grenades, Dynamite, Flamethrower, Panzer Faust, Venom chain gun, and a electric shock weapon.
Plus special items to boot, you even get bonus items by killing in stealth. There’s 30 levels including 7 exclusive to X-Box.

There is multiplayer modes, but this is where Wolfenstein lacks in. The only multiplayer mode playable at first is a 2-player co-op campaign mode.
To play any other multiplayer games, you need to be online or have several Xbox’s linked together.
The Graphics are all top notch, and the sound is frighteningly good. You’ll jump out of you seat a few times in this game.
There’s hidden secrets in almost every level, and many are quite challenging to find.
You can even play the classic Wolfenstein 3D once you beat the game. While The secret areas and playing as classic Wolfenstein is great, It would have been nice if there was other secrets to earn as well.
The control is near perfect, once you play with the control options. But every FPS fan has their own liking of control.
Although I must add that classic Wolfenstein needs a control option. I know it’s an extra, but still it wouldn’t have hurt.
Overall Return to Castle Wolfenstein gets a highly recommend if your looking for a good story driven FPS.
