With so many Snowboarding out there, one might wonder why doesn't somebody try a different winter sport for a change. Someone finally has. Electronic Arts has released the long over due snow mobile racer titled Sled Storm for the Sony Playstation.
This is not some hack job putting a twist on the winter sport phenom known as snowboarding. This is an original game concept with excellent high-rez graphics and plenty of fun.
You have never seen snow covered landscapes in a video game such as these. The graphics have little break-up or pop-up. The snow mobiles run fast and react true to life.
Just like most racers you can chose different characters to play as, each with a different mobile, which be upgraded with the money you earn from winning a race.
Multiple wilderness tracks to choose from and earn. Sled Storm tries to keep it as real as possible with wild life in the backgrounds and as road hazards. You sled can go almost anywhere. The wipe outs are extreme enough to give sympathy to your virtual sled rider. The music is provided by some awesome bands including Rob Zombie, who's becoming a video game music icon. You might remember his tunes from Twisted Metal 3.
The sound effects are out standing, the control is right on. The Dual Shock controller really gives you the freedom to move react fast when a squirrel is right in your sights. Don't avoid hitting any snowmen, you get points for them. You can also gain points by performing tricks while airborne. Its easy and a lot of fun.
Sled Storm is such an original game. To describe it best, if Road Rash and Jet Moto married. Sled Storm would be its offspring. Sled Storm was a highly anticipated game, and it meets every expectation and beyond. This is a must have game for '99.
