The best snow mobile racer on the PSone is back for its PS2 debut. Only now, EA has given it the EA BIG make over.
Sled Storm (2) is an awesome game. It takes the excitement of snow mobile racing and adds bigger tricks and zany characters with the attitude of SSX Tricky.
Don’t get it mixed up with Midway’s Arctic Thunder which is very similar in format.
Now I liked Arctic Thunder, so don’t get me wrong when I say its chaos racing. Cause it is. What I mean by that, is there is little to no strategy to the game. Basically you hold down the gas button and hope for the best.
It is so fast and furious, that you lose all sight of whats going on at times. On the other hand it’s a hell of a lot of fun too. Sled Storm (2) is not completely different, its far from realistic.
However, it slows down the pace just enough to catch sight of whats going on.
Sled Storm (2) offers a multitude of tricks you can perform for a bigger score, which adds to new characters and snow mobile upgrades yada yada yada.
Like I said earlier, some of the tricks maybe considered over the top. but hey, if it wasn’t over the top it wouldn’t be EA BIG, now would it.
The graphics are not quite where I would have imagined them being. Not to say that the graphics are terrible, cause to say that would be straight up lie. However, they’re not SSX league if you know what I mean, and I know you do.
I think what I was disappointed in, was the size of the racers themselves.
I always expect a next generation game to display huge characters for some reason. On the flip side, Sled Storm (2) features some truly beautiful landscapes. The levels are huge wile fine detail. Which is a big plus, and an advantage over Arctic Thunder.
The control is right on the money for me. If you’ve played any EA Big game, you can handle this puppy.
So who’s this game for? Anyone who enjoyed SSX and extreme racing. If you liked Arctic Thunder, or if you felt Arctic Thunder was too insane.
This game has something for everybody. I think that’s the “big” appeal to the EA Sports BIG series.
These are sport related titles that the masses can not only play, but enjoy.
You have to be an enthusiast of any kind to enjoy thiese games. Just pick up a controller and go. Just like that.
Personally, I loved the original Sled Storm. Its probably one of my all time favorite PSone racers.
Definitely the best of the snow mobile racers. So, I was astatic when I found out they were making a sequel, and then that it was going to a EA Sports BIG game.
Did it live up to my expectations? Mostly, yeah. But my expectations were huge.
Its like most peoples expectations for Star Wars Episode 1. Impossible to please.
I recommend this game highly, and its perfect for the summer months.
