Vary few comic books games ever come out and wow me.
In fact, in most I get disgusted and think “Did they even try and make a good game?”
I’m also a huge Spawn fan and hated every Spawn game ever made.
Spawn on SNES and PSX where less then what I’d hoped for.
Now Dreamcast has a Spawn game based on the Arcade from Capcom.
While this Spawn is better the both the SNES and PSX versions it still isn’t the perfect game.
Spawn is kind of a third person fighting game. In one player mode it’s you against a boss and a couple of his henchmen. You run around using weapons of all kinds and picking up spheres that raise your
abilities and kill the boss before the timer runs out.
There’s TONS of secret characters and weapons to find in this game. So there’s tons of replay if you really want to get everything in this game.
Some of the characters are hard to play. Due to they are extremely weak and have little of no weapons.
While this does make a great challenge it also gets so frustrating you might want to throw your controller through the TV a few times.
This game is total chaos. You die every other second then return to blast some more then the boss kills you with one blow and you try again....... and again......... and again. And the bosses fight extremely cheap.
Not only do you have to worry about the boss but the henchmen as well. The game is only over if the timer runs out. There’s no limit to your lives or continues for that matter.
The multiplayer is not the best, you get lost and frustrated at the chaos that players will quit due to its craziness. One player can play as a HUGE demon and kill all the other players with a couple hits.
Also the large characters are able to walk through doors that are half their size is a little unreal.
Control is another problem with this game. Its hard to pickup items and a target lock would have been nice. I do give Capcom credit for trying something different. There are some good qualities to Spawn just not enough to make it a great game.
The Sound is high intense action, tons of secrets to open and some levels are huge and have several rooms and platforms. Overall I think Spawn is a good renter. Rent it and play all the chaos till you can’t stand it no more then return it.
