SPACE CHANNEL 5

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

The world is being invaded by aliens called "Morolians" who are enslaving humans to dance.
A Channel 5 reporter named Ulala must save the world by dancing coping the aliens dance moves and blasting them. If you stay in tune to the music and beat the aliens and release hostages you ratings will go up. and you'll pass the level if you get the ratings required.
This is the plot to a dancing game called Space Channel 5.

You play of course as Ulala and most copy the Mololians dance moves. While other dance and music copy games have come and gone on the PSX. (Parappa the Rapper, Um Jammer Lammy & Bust a Groove) This is the first musical on the DC.
The graphics are nice, but have vary little detail. While colorful, the characters and back drops are bland and have little imagination.
Ulala looks like she's from a Austin Powers movie (a orange mini skirt and tank top) along with the rest of the game. This isn't a bad thing but maybe it's just a little too retro.

Ulala is animated well and flows right along with the music along with aliens and hostages.. The music is a hip hop dance mix. while catchy it plays the same style of music on every level. The only difference the aliens moves faster or slower.
Space Channel 5 has fun music and a fun look. It's more frustrating then fun.
The control is SC5s worst feature. When a alien moves "Left....Right, Chu, Chu,.....Down" There is no bar or meter on anything to help keep to the beat. If your off by even a half second. you'll lose that dance battle. There's no second chance.
Another problem is on later levels opponents say the dance moves so fast you'll be totally lost on what to press and lose the round every time.

The next complaint is the number of levels....four. yes four. While hard to beat the game in the first place, if you do get the moves down you'll have it beat in a hour.
Space Channel 5 is at best a renter. Rent it, dance to it, move to it, laugh at it, throw the controller at it. cuss and swear at it, then return it.
