STUNTMAN

by Jay "The Flea" Wade

Okay sing with me...... “I’m a good ol’ boys, never meanin’ no harm....” Sorry this game just gives me Dukes of Hazzard flash backs.
The game in question is Stuntman, a game with a great idea that doesn’t go as far as I was hoping.
In the game you play as a Stuntman who starts his career in some really silly movies.
They tell you the stunt that want and you must perform it.
That’s pretty much sums up the object to this game.

The gameplay is your on a set track and you must complete all the stunts on the course before the timer runs out, or if you just miss to many stunts.
But my problem with this is, the player has no control of when to use Nitros, no different directions, or any choice to improve the stunt.
I guess I was hoping for a large city with stunts laid out all over the city and you must find the location and do the stunts.
(Think Grand Theft Auto 3 or Driver 2) but instead of running for the cops, it’s a set city with tons of cool stuff to jump and crash into.
Maybe Stuntman 2? Atari, Reflections, knock-knock.....Hello?

There is a Create a stunt arena mode, where you can place ramps, stuff to jump over or crash into.
But the problem with this is they will only allow so many items in the arena.
I believe its due to the lack of memory, This really sucks.
You can only place maybe a couple ramps and a bunch of stuff to jump of crash into.
I really wanted to place ten ramps with wrecked cars and barrels to crash into all over the place.
But its so limited that after a couple jumps, it becomes boring.

The graphics are pretty cool, it almost has that Driver look to the game.
The FMV is poor, character animation is weak and the voice acting feels like it came out of a Dukes of Hazzard episode.
Some of the movie trailers are fun to watch, they are so over the top silly you have to laugh.
The cars look nice, I just wish it had a freestyle mode where you can wander around a city or town and smash into stuff.
Also Stuntman is a HARD game, you’ll find it almost frustrating at times.
And once you do beat it, there’s nothing to make you want to play it again.
Overall I’d say Stuntman is worth renting at best. Stuntman is a great idea that gets off the ramp and into the air, but it misses its target to becoming a classic and crashes and burns.
