With some of the most popular video game titles these days being skate boarding and snow boarding, it was only a matter of time before a surfing game was made.
Ubi-Soft is the pioneer to issue the first of its kind Surf Riders for Sony PlayStation.
Surf Riders is great as a concept, but in reality the game sinks. Graphically Surf Riders is behind the times, even for a PlayStation game. Surf Riders looks like a 16 bit Super Nintendo game. The waves look bland and too solid. The surfers themselves lack any detail or substance at all.
The surfer tunes provided are not fun, but rather annoying.
The control is weak, but controllable once mastered. The overall problem with this game, is that its not much of a game at all. Its a balancing act. Surfing can be an excellent game. Surf Riders is not it. Ubi-Soft deserves credit for being the first, how ever it may have been their will to be the first that was their downfall.
Originality is a great thing, but a game must also be entertaining.
