I’ve always been a Star Wars fan and had to try the first Star Wars game on the PS2.
The game play is basically exactly like the ones on the N64, Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo.
You mostly fly pne of three combat ships, one being of course the Naboo Star Fighter and two other new ships designed for this game. There’s a couple secret ships to be unlocked too.
There’s fourteen levels (plus bonus ones) to battle out in and save the galaxy. And of course most are based after Star Wars Episode I the Phantom Menace.
The missions can be a real challenge, at times there’s so many trade federation ships at once on the screen that you get lost to your objectives. Or get blown to pieces due to your targeting one ship and three others are blasting you apart.

The graphics is a big step up from the N64 spaceship shooters. The ships are all high rez and every ship looks great, there could have been more minor detail to the larger ships but its not a huge concern. Ships explode to pieces as you fly through the remains and the hundreds of ships flying around with no slow down really gives the player a rush.
The FMV is a little blah and could have been touched up. Not the worst ever I’ve seen, just nothing special.

The characters portrayed in the movies are also dull and the player really doesn’t care about them. The sound is like most any Star Wars game, full of energy. The music sounds like a soundtrack from the movies and the voice clips are on target.

The control is for the most part has no flaws, the lock-on targeting can get frustrating at times due to you have to press the triangle button over and over to find the objective target, and at times it seems to be impossible to find.
If you’re a Star Wars fan and like games like Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo you’ll get a blast out of Star Wars: Starfighter.
