TRIPLE PLAY 2000

by JOEDOG

If baseball seems like its been given new life after last years home run race, your not the only one. EA Sports has breathed new life into its Triple Play baseball video game series. For the first time in EA Sports history Triple Play is available on N64 as well as Playstation.

The legendary play control and dual announcers are live and well in Triple Play 2000 for Playstation. The rest is a complete well deserved make over from disappointing Triple Play 99. TP 2000 has supped up its graphics to include more detail and less break-up. The virtual ball players are so much more alive than before. The stadiums feature a very detailed field and arena. The best ever seen on Playstation. The N64 version however does fall a little short. The graphics are sharper than the PSX edition, but flat compared to other N64 competitors. The field looks so washed out, and the fans in the stands are blurs of colors. The famous Triple Play dual announcers have been cut back to only one for the N64, due to the limited space for sound bytes. However they did a great job on how the voices sound. No more scratchy sounding announcers for EA Sports N64 games. It sounds just as good as the CD Playstation version. Triple Play's control does not translate well on the N64. Its a simple based control method that has no reason to be difficult. Ever since Triple Play 97 the control has always been its best feature. Fortunately the Playstation Triple Play 2000 has great control, graphics and sound. All which Triple Play is known for.

Triple Play 2000 features a new create a player feature. Which is only okay. No great detail included in this feature, but its a start. Overall Triple Play 2000 for both systems are loads of fun, but if you have a choice Playstation is still the way to play ball.
