You may have read my review on Infogrames N64 title V-rally Edition '99. It was not a favorable review, and I still stand by that. However, Infogrames has teamed up with Electronic Arts again to bring us the sequel to Need For Speed V-rally, titled V-rally 2: Need For Speed for Sony Playstation.
V-rally 2 is ten times the game Edition 99 was. True high resolution graphics, probably the highest resolution seen on the Playstation. Gran Turismo 2 doesn't even capture this high of resolution. In the right lighted level, you can see the drivers in the cars. Your name appears on the cars license plates and can be read through out the game. A Little pop-up does appear, but this is still only a Playstation game after all.
Basically the same premise as V-rally 99, off-road rally racing, real makes and models of V-rally racers. 84 tracks plus the new track editor. You can create your own tracks, with amazing ease, or let the computer randomly create you a track. Its great.
V-rally 2 is so fast, it must run 60 frames per second. This game really compliments the Dual Analog controller. The control is fast, slick and dangerous. These cars will flip over easily, but when they do, we get to see even more detail of these incredible racers.
V-rally 2: Need For Speed is not a heavily promoted title, you may have passed it over already. The original NFS V-rally and V-rally 99 for N64 were both huge disappointments. V-rally 2 is the first in this series to not only be worth while, but can easily be one of the best racers this year on Playstation or any system. V-rally 2 is the Playstation's version of N64's V-rally 99, but their miles apart. The Playstation has won this battle, gloves down, this match is over.
