WORLDS SCARIEST POLICE CHASES

by Jay "THE FLEA" Wade

This game could also be titled, the opposite of Driver.
World Scariest Police Chases (WSPC) plays almost exactly like Driver only from the cops point of view.
Basically the story is you are a cop and after some basic training your put out onto the streets and answer the calls to chase bad guys and put them behind bars.
In you chases you can stop cars by ramming them, shooting them from out the window, or in some cases till they give up.

The missions (just like Driver) range from chasing a suspect then ramming them off the road, Your caught in a shootout and have to fire upon the suspect. Escorting a ambulance to the hospital. Stop a manic driving a bus or tank.
In many missions the suspect will throw evidence out the window and have to retrieve it after the chase.
You can use weapons to stop the suspect, but only if your given permission from the station. (Awww, their no fun)
If you use it with out their okay, the mission is over and your is hot water.

My major problem with WSPC is one the car damages way to easy. You’ll wreck you car a lot in this game. Some missions are slow and pointless, in one mission you chase a bus until he gives up. While others are a high action chase.
The free patrol is fun, its again like Driver, where there’s no mission just drive around till you get a call then try and get to the seine of the crime in time.
The free patrol could have added where you can stop any car for what ever reason then he tries to run from the cops. Also a two player cops and robbers mode would have bee cool to.
But no, they don’t want you playing the bad guy in this game.

There is a cooperative mode where you both play as the cops and work together to get the suspect. I also wish they would have made it like Driver 2 where you can exit the vehicle and chase suspects down on foot. (Maybe in WSPC2?)

The graphics are okay, with little pop-up and the levels are huge, but in many areas the graphics looked like they could have been touched up a bit. Especially the blocky people, ick.
The control is a bit weak, using the weapons and targeting a suspect can be a pain. You shoot to many bystanders the mission is over. (They don’t let you get away with any thing in this game) And the cars don’t handle as well as they do in Driver.
There are tons of secrets that does add some replay, earning them and playing the secret cars.
Overall I liked WSPC but its nowhere the gameplay that Driver had. If you want to play as the good guys and chase the bad guys then you’ll get a kick out of WSPC.
