X-MEN LEGENDS

by Wyatt "JOEDOG" Elliott

Marvel’s most popular comic has had numerous video game adaptions. Whether its based on
X-men or one of its many popular characters, the games have not always faired well. They’ve had
numerous adventure games and fighting games, but now Activision has created a whole new
format for those famous mutants.

A cooperative role playing strategy game in the genre of Champions of Norath or Hunter the
Reckoning. Legends allows you to control four X-men at one time. You can either have a party
of four, where each player controls one mutant, or if your playing solitary, you get to switch
between all four X-Men giving you complete control of their powers.

Even as single player, its still a co-op game. All the power ups you earn is shared between the
X-men. That means, even a single player game is co-op. It’s a game about sharing! Awwww.

Okay, lets get the facts strait. Graphically, its pretty cool. Highly detailed levels. However, the
characters themselves are small and not portrayed as I think we’re used to seeing the X-Men look
like. Maybe its just me, having not followed the comic for sometime now. But, I’m playing with
my buds and I can’t tell the difference from Wolverine and Cyclops on a 47" High Def TV. Each
X-Man seem to have a clone counterpart, meaning there are X-Men who share moves and
abilities. Ah, but its cleverly disguised as both Storm and Jean Grey fly, but for different reasons.
Both Gambit and Jubilee shoot projectiles, but Gambit uses his playing cards. But it’s the same move.

Overall, I think this X-men game as most X-man games, only passes as entertainment. Its not
overwhelmingly great, nor terrible. Its just okay. Once beaten, you can’t even replay with all your
new upgrades. So, what’s the point? Rent it and be done with it.
